I like topics and to study on a specific topic and i was thinking 'asking God for forgiveness'.

Is there acturally anything in the bible that says ask God to forgive your sins?

Everything I can find is only people asking for the forgiveness of others but not themselves. And then there is 'if you confess your sins the Father will forgive', but confessing sins is not asking for forgiveness, its just confessing you have sinned. And then there is if you forgive others you are forgiven.

There maybe verses that say ask God to forgive you, but i cannot find any.

Edit. Ok i was only looking at forgiveness verses but forgot about 'mercy' and the asking 'mercy'. Like the man who said 'Son of David have mercy on me', so i guess that is asking for there forgivess.

Luk 11:2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
Luk 11:3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
Luk 11:4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

Yea I jumped ahead way to early without doing a full study first. It wasn't that I didn't believe it but was just looking to see what the actural bible says and finding the verses, I can't believe I didn't even think and see it was right there in the most famous and well known Prayer. Lol.

I may have found additional references.

1 John 1:9 NKJV
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Matthew 6:14 NKJV
“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."

I believe this may be an example of how we are to be seeking forgiveness. Matthew 18:21-34 NKJV
The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made. The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, ‘Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.“But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’ So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ And he would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt. So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done. Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’ And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him.

2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV
If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin...

I also believe this is an example of seeking and receiving forgiveness John 3:16-17 NKJV
"God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."
