I used to...for "breakthrough anxiety" on top of my ongoing Klonopin. It was OK. I mean, you can take it just when you need it, cuz it works faster than a lot of other options. Long term...can be addictive, not as addictive as xanax, thank God. If you take it all the time, every day, sometimes you'll get anxiety in between doses. More common with xanax, but can happen with ativan, too. If that happens...you can just take more or switch to klonopin or xanax xr or something.

Ummmm....ideally, only used for 1-4 weeks +/- and then tapered. If its going to be a long term thing, be sure you always have it on you when you travel and also make sure you have refills lined up. Sedative, so...if you're on sedating stuff, be more careful (of course, I would hope your prescriber took this into account).

Ummm.....any benzodiazepine, over the long haul, will cause some degree of dependence. Not always terrible. Most people are OK; some people, it can be hell to taper. Sometimes, depression starts or gets worse because of tranquilizers.

My purpose of asking is that my doc doesn't want to give me as much Xanax as I want, and I was looking for an alternative to help me sleep at night.
And just use the Xanax for daytime anxiety.

ummm...no. Please do not take Haldol, unless you're absolutely going manic or something.
The doc gave me escitalopram oxalate.
I open up the paper work and glaring me in the face it says,'MAY CAUSE SUICIDALTHOUGHTS".
It went on to talk about suicide all through the side effects.
I refused to take them.

yeah...lexapro...they're trying to get people off of benzos and onto antidepressants....
So the doc is trying to get me off Xanax without giving me any decent alternative.
I'm trying to come up with the safest and most affective sleep aid to replace half my Xanax.
What's my best bet?

ummm....well, my first vote would be for Restoril or Ativan, but if your doc wants you off xanax, that might not happen. After that...Ambien, Sonata, Lunesta. After that...I dunno man...these days, they're putting people on Seroquel for sleep, lol. Oh, wait...neurontin or lyrica.
