Attempted Entrapment?

Our son went on a social media and got a message from a "girl" stating that she thought he was good looking and said her "girlfriend" needed sex after breaking up with her boyfriend giving our son a link to a website. Our son immediately asked "her" who sent her because he had no picture of himself posted and scant, if any, personal info. He warned them he had screenshot the communication and was going public. He said "she" immediately closed their social media account and I tried to research the website link and it shows nothing. Our son immediately posted it to YouTube.
When I posted this to Facebook I put the website link and Facebook said it was a prohibited link.....so I won't put it as a link here nor the full name. Part of the name was ...p a s s I o n h u g s. I told our son he did the right thing and that he was probably being set up to an under aged "girl". These people are slithering snakes.

A long time ago I got several of those types of messages. They "girl" on the other end said she thought I was cute (according to my profile picture). The picture was of a chimp with a pink bow in her hair. I should have responded, "Oooooo! Aaaaaah!" But I just laughed.

It's not entrapment...It's data theft.
Next thing to keep an eye out for is the cloning of your Facebook page.
They steal a few of your pictures and post them up and then try to make friends out of all of your friends...Then mine them for information. Eventually effectively stealing your identity.
They will ask for money from your friends and all kinds of private information.

I opened my Facebook page to public and stopped using it. (No need for friend requests then)

It's both.

In fact over here there has been a drive to bring awareness.
They determine by your response which way to go.

If they entrap you they then try bribe you. They seduce you by appealing to the lustful side and if you fall for it they then say "This will go viral and everybody you are linked to on any social site will see it unless you give me money"

Then as you say it's data theft
