Jesus was teaching Nicodemus in John 3:5-7 that it was a Spiritual rebirth or renewal of our spirit that through Gods spoken word we can reconcile our past sins through repentance to be made sinless again before God. We are all born with a sin nature because of sin being introduced into the world through Satan’s deceit when he told Eve it was alright to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil even though God forbid them to eat of it. Our flesh will always sin because the flesh is never in obedience to God, John 9:31; Romans 8:7, 8.

Sin separates us from God because God is a spirit and can only recognize his own children by what spirit is living in their hearts. We have to renew, rebirth - born again, Gods Spirit within us in order to be called a child of God and see the kingdom of heaven. We now put off the old man (flesh) and put on the new man (Spirit). We are renewed by the word of God and through the Holy Spirit teaching us of all things, John 14:26; Colossians Chapter 3.

We now have an intercessor (Jesus) who sits at the right hand of the Father and hears our confession that we are sinners and need his salvation as we believe in our heart that he was truly sent from God as the living word that we can indeed become righteous again not of our own righteousness, but that righteousness that is God whom through his Spirit is promised to dwell in us. All we have to do is believe and confess that we are sinners and allow Gods righteousness to cleanse us and renew our spirit man. Jesus wants us to come as we are and allow him to make the changes that need made in our hearts. People want to clean the fish before they catch them, but Jesus says come as you are I will clean you from the inside out, John 10:9; 1:14; Romans 10:9, 10.

It is not by our works or good deeds that save us for if that was all it would take then Gods word would be made void in our lives and Jesus would have died in vain, but because we are all sinners, it is by Gods grace and mercy that forgives our sins and washes us clean by the atoning blood of the Lamb (Jesus) so we can be made renewed again and free from our old sin nature, Ephesians 2:8, 9; Titus 3:5-7.

I would add Romans 3:10 & :23 to your scriptures bt then I was and remain a Roman Road Teacher. &ou will need to forgive me for I am an antique that has yet to be rebroken, wet and reshaped.

I love your short and to the point metaphor but being an old story teller, liar, I use one stolen from a now, expired, Preacher/
Pastor, Brother Dry.

In the Roman Empire, in some states, with the folks in control in Rome not wanting to loose their Tax Base, a Perfectly Horrible Punishment was used on some of the murderers. If the murderer was caught and delivered to the City Authorities before the Carcuss began to rot, forcing them to dispose of the Carcuss, the dead man or woman was bound to the back of the Murderer, rotting, not just, the Murdered but Rotting , alive, the Murderer also.

Sounds to horrible to imagine... just, sickening but it is what it was and it is the perfect metaqphor for the Condition of the converted. All of us, Converted from Sinner to Saved Christians, are still and will remain New Creations in YHWH but with our Dead Former Selves strapped to our New Bodies and that Life lived by that man or woman constantly pulling our New Selves back to the, imagined and thus lived, formerly Lusted after pleasures.

Christianity is easy, only, if we deliver every facet of our Multifaceted Lives to and place them, every one, permanently, under the authority of our Triune Godhead.

It reviles many that YHWH would be present with us when we eat, go to bed and when we excavate the waste products from ourselves. The truth is Ruah, the original language, Peleo-Hebrew naqme of the Holy Spirit, and Ruah goes everywhere any Seeker of the True God, YHWH, goes, recording everything any of us do and knows every time and reason we yield to that Old Man we are still influenced by, needing to Daily to Repent of those actions to further seek after the perfection of our LORD.

We will not attain it but believe me, this Guitar Player that tried to eat a microphone each night and to talk some 18 or 19 year old beauty to sleep in his bed, willingly, rebukes the Old Man and prays to Yashuah ha'Mashiah for even having the though and or urge these past 28 and almost 29 years.

Over time it has become eaxsier and easier to rebuke sin and it will become so with you also... if you devote every facet of your lives to Him.

Your metaphor is exactly who we are as the past will always be present with us in the thoughts of the not so good things of our past that even for me at the age of 63 am ashamed of my earlier days. Praise be to God that He has given us Jesus who sits at God's right hand making intercession for us as God not only forgives, but remembers our past no more since we are a new creation in Christ.

:goodpost not only for each one of us but for our guests who I pray will one day come in to join us.

The Holy Spirit works so hard in helping us to get rid old man. But what a generous gift the Lord has given us in salvation, which not one of us deserves. God is definitely a God of Love.

:agreed we will never attain it. Very good points in your post.

But the battle goes on. We need to put our daily cross on our backs over the old man. And talk to our wonderful Father more and more.

I am constantly reminded of my past, in my social role as an outsider. Sometimes, i wonder if the electroshock was a blessing in disguise. Anyway...

Thanks to jesus I am a whole new person, both inside and out. The cruelty is sometimes a problem, but I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me.

Grace is God's unmerited favor given to us even though none deserve it. It's also God's power and authority given to us by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who works in us and through us as there is nothing we can do of our self apart from the Holy Spirit who guides us and teaches us.
