how many will be honest enough to reply

12 I know both how to have a little, and I know how to have a lot.o In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content—whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need. 13 I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.q 14 Still, you did well by sharing with me in my hardship.

--ya got me--

God has been (and is) good to me, in all respects. Still, becoming (and staying...) genuinely, truly content and thankful, especially when things get rough(ish)...is a challenge.

good post, btw.

Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. Mark 7:24 NIV

One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: "Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city." Acts 18:9-10 NIV

Amen Brother ezra, but much easier said than done at times. Such times test and build our faith that it is God, and God alone that takes us though the fires in our lives.

My favorite preacher now deceased ministered to me for near forty years, and remained preaching or teaching the assembly I attended four times per week and was truly a shepherd until our Lord took him at ninety-four years of age. He once said something to the effect that if you haven't been mad at the Lord at times, you haven't walked very long with Him. He admitted to having quit preaching numerous times, BUT, but for God.

I read of the things Paul experienced and am amazed how God was so effective in his life to have him say in:
Php 3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
Php 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
Php 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

I am not at times but I suggest this. should we be content in our relationship with God? can it be better?

My contentment is in the Lord whom I trust in all areas of my life. When I was down, He picked me up, when I was hungry He fed me. When I was homeless He gave me shelter. Material things are nice, but if it was all taken away today I will always be content in my Lord who will always supply my needs as His name will always be glorified and I will praise Him the rest of my life.

The Buddha said that constant "want" is the reason for misery, in general.
As i think back on my life, i would say that ...1.) other people created most of my personal misery, or, 2.) situations that i had to endure, that i usually caused, created most of the rest.
3.) Life happens and you are stuck:)

There is a saying that....."suffering is resistance to what IS"...
And i kinda roll with that one, mostly, as i think that kinda nails it.
A whole lot of Life's contentment found.. is ... = just the disciplined ability to accept that all thorns have roses:)
And vice versa.
Life is a thorn that is a Rose....
You just have to learn, the best way you can, to deal with it.
The better you do this... the more content you will become.
The college of life, you see, has no graduates, it just has LEARNERS...

Some of you had the luxury of loving parents who valued God and the bible, and that was your earliest cultivation.
Was not mine.
My parents were sort of mostly honest, hardworking, Low Level heathens.
My mother started off well, as a teen, as God actually instantly gifted her with the ability to play the piano and guitar.
She didnt have to practice, and she was just given the ability, from God.
My dad sort of started off as a mild religious cynic, and after a divorce @ 43, met and married a very religious younger woman who taught him how to go to church a lot.
After years and years of this, he mellowed some and grew to be a real believer.
My mom left her "religion" early on....and wasted most of her years with friends and work and night clubs and lonliness.
In the end, her final years, (just before the coma), she was finally broken enough by life situations that she was able to grow somewhat closer to the Lord as she approached her final days.
Both my parents were saved early in life, then both hit the ground running straight toward the hell raising.
Both by their end, were back on the right side of the Light.
Me?
Ive been to seminary, and all that.
Ive seen miracles in front of my eyes.
Ive lived in Israel, and will again.
Years ago, I was fortunate enough to sit at the feet, for a while, of one of the most profound theologians-preachers-evangelist, who ever lived.
Am i content?
Well, more then i use to be:)
I think a little discontent is good for the soul, as it helps you to not stagnate and turn into uselessness.

The Buddha however theorized that if you can get rid of "want" you can end your suffering, for the most part.
To live in a state of not wanting.....would be the Buddha's idea of bliss.
The problem is, you can only get rid of want, once you are dead.
Otherwise, you will want...
Do you want anything right now?
Well, within a few minutes you will want something.....no worries:)
The issue isn't want......the issue is wanting what is bad for you, or wanting too much of what is good for you..
You are , in fact, designed by God to want.
It is natural to want., and to be human is to want, .... but where the Devil gets the foothold is when he can drive you to
extremes, within your "want".
Face it, you came out of the womb wanting food and affection, and you'll go to your grave wanting "just a little more time and health".
So, its not about "want".....its really about self control.

MONEY, Is a good example of a substance that we want.
Sure, you want money and i do, and we should.
Isn't it nice to have a home, a car, a TV, and food and clothes, and to provide for your family?
Have you ever tried to get all that without money?
Have you ever tried to repair a car or buy a new washing machine, or pay for a funeral without money?
My advice...dont try that:).......as its so much better to have money instead when facing the continuing issues in life.
Money , in a literal sense, is a financial lubricant that allows you less friction in life as you travel down the rocky path of life.
Almost everything can be solved, if you have enough money.......(almost everything).
And if your money is wrong, your life is also.....as that is a certain consequence of how it is to have to live in a world where money matters matter too much.

So...The issue lies in the fact of how much you want it and what you'll do to get all you want of it (whatever it is).........and why.
So, "you", "we", "us".... are the issue, and want is just the situation.

amen and this is a learning experience

The verse I tie together with being content................. Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Good in human terms, may not be God's purpose. Jesus's death in human terms doesn't look good, but God's purpose is bigger than our understandings being in the flesh. I have many horrible things happening currently but I lean not my understanding of the whole thing. I just know that everything I'm going through, it will work for the good (in God's terms).

yes certainly he does work thing together for our good many promises we just have to hold on to them by faith ..but we do have the power with in us to overcome.

If you have the Holy Spirit, yes. He is the Spirit of truth and he guides us unto all righteousness. That also includes the trials we face.

John 14:17 The Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

John 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.

2 Corinthians 1:3-7 Praise be to God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share I our comfort.

The truth that is given to us is that even in those trials and sufferings come with the comfort that Christ has given us.

Do I really have to be content in California, because I am looking at a possible move to Texas, and I could possibly be really content in Texas.
