You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matt 5:13-16

Ever walk into a room with many lights on and no shadow. It is strange because everything stands out.
Jesus said some simple things. Our evil deeds cause us to hide from God.
As followers of Christ we are to be light to others.

Our behaviour is our testimony of Christ on earth

These are important ideas and thoughts. But my friends if we face them alone we have already been defeated because Jesus calls us as a family, together through love to discover this, with all our obvious weaknesses and failures out it the open. In any family, everyone is known and none can get away with the habits others know exist.

How is it some believers think we can be a dim light and a failed example, and that is what Jesus was actually meaning? I suspect some neither really believe or have seen the light, let alone become the light for others.

The "Covenant of Salt" was one I had difficulties with for a while. I kinda knew about it but then went to looking at it more in depth.

The covenant of salt is one where everything (meat and grain) offered on the altar was supposed to be seasoned to where it would taste delicious.
I love popcorn with salt.... one of my favorites. (My dentist hates it though)

But when I got to thinking about what Jesus was telling the Apostles...that it became obvious that Jesus was making them responsible for other's zeal for God their responsibility. Otherwise they would be eaten alive by the crowds they served.

Today with preachers trying to give interviews with secular media I see them give less than what we expect...and pay for their choices with horrible consequences. Sure, they wish to appeal to a larger audience, but in doing so they ultimately silence themselves to a much smaller one.

Basically Jesus was telling us that we can't be an "undercover Christian". And I had been one way too often. I was trying to keep from abusing Christ's name but defying this directive at the same time.

So I had to change. It's not exactly easy to do this Christian thing. It's harder than it appears.
Thank God for Jesus who forgives sin AND iniquity.

I agree whole heartedly. I think we learn our own culture very well and then find it hard
to see Christ in the situation. I realise you cannot learn how to love alone, you need others
with which to grow. But that is often where we stop and back off when we feel hurt.
Getting close to one another is our calling, but seeing who one is up close is difficult
if it means we need to change. So many believers are perfect in their controlled
environment, but go outside this, no way.....

If we lose that flavor (light) then how will others now how delicious something is without the seasoning

Psalms 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

I was in church and talking about our projector, which had gone wrong.
It was over engineered 7 years ago, and now is old tech, and not working properly.
If as believers we cannot face the truth, show love and support one for another, and then
through working it through and giving love, support and forgiveness do we find reality.
Some want church to go without issues, but that would be as if we do not know the Lord
and how to overcome and work through issues. It is always interesting to me how some
want all the problems resolved, when here and now, it is learning how to be salt that we
exalt the King in our midst.

I agree, and I think the way we're supposed to do it is to...confess our faults to one another. Not only does it humble one, but issues are worked through and solutions found, and the king is exalted at the same time. I think that's how it works and brings the atmosphere of love and support to bear also. and everyone is edified.
