i pulled this up while looking for shalom jerusalem. its a song we sing in church and monica sung this. theologically it drives me nuts as a gentile church is singing of the year of jubilee.

heaven as jubilee is an interesting take.

but since its a messianic jewish song now i get it. makes perfect sense.

I've always liked U2, and I'm aware of the faith aspect in some of their music, although most of the time it's shrouded in humanism, IMO. Bono's cause is very much more about world relief from a secular perspective than a Christian one. What he does is fine, but if he made it clear that his passion was derived from his response to the Lord, it would be all the better.

I find it disconcerting that a believer would feel Christian music beats him over the head with "faith". Could you cite any Scripture that says it's best to focus on the Lord SOME of the time? Should you love the Lord with some of heart, some of your soul, and some of your mind? Your statement would be expected from a "casual Christian" or a non-believer.

For the same reason I don't want to watch nothing but "Christian" movies or read nothing but the Bible. Passion of the Christ is a great movie and the Bible is indispensable, but I also like watching Star Wars and reading Lord of the Rings.

Having an eclectic range of music you listen to isn't the same as saying "Christian music beats you over the head with it like a hammer". I completely agree that Christians are free to enjoy secular music if it is not their personal stumbling block. But you went a lot further than saying you have the freedom.

You said you [a Christian] dislike bands who sing of nothing more than the Lord because they beat you over the head with faith like a hammer. I'm sorry CN. It might seem like I'm nagging you about this. Well, maybe I am. You say U2 has the perfect blend... perfect.

u2 is like the joel osteen of music for this christian.

yuck, i can only tolerate she moves in mysterious ways.

I have always been a fan of Hawk Nelson , but i have heared that their lead vocalist is going solo. So next on my list is Newsboys and Tenth Avenue North , :)

Tenth Avenue North is fantastic! :yes

And here's the kicker. They are humble, Godly young men. They played a concert at our church after their first album came out, and my son and I spent the day running them around town and helping them set up. They were genuinely interested in Joshua's thoughts, and he was only 14 at the time. These guys are true-blue authentic. For a long time, our son went back & forth, messaging them on their website.

I've seen the other side - artists that came in all full of themselves. I won't name names here, but they made very bad, lasting impressions, and I can't listen to their music anymore. :gah

Tenth Avenue North members are men my son admires and aspires to be like. As a dad, I'm grateful that God put them in his path. I believe they are anointed in their craft. It's beautiful.

wow Mike , really..that's amazing. I love tenth avenue north, and their song " Beloved" is one of my favorite and helps me relax during my most pressured times ...it's amazing you had actually meet them:) I hope and pray that their group will last long and they will bless more people by their lives. Mike Donehey is not just an amazing singer but also an amazing Dad and hubby to his wife, :) i've been watching their videos too...:)
