So, I purchased a brand new house last year with all of the recessed ceiling lights being the cfl 4-pin variety. Well, they are starting to burn out (way sooner than expected) and I am wondering what alternatives there are available.
I would like to change them out for LEDs, but the fixture may not work with just swapping out the bulbs. There are some obvious options available. Swapping out the entire fixture in the ceiling for something I can plug (or screw) a LED bulb into, but I would rather go a more simpler route. I have seen there are 4-pin LEDs available, but from what I understand this may require a complete rewiring of the can that is installed in the ceiling. There are also screw in receptacles that I can plug into the 4-pin receptacle, but that may also require some rewiring.
So here is my question. Is there anyone here that is familiar with the fixtures I am referring to. I would rather find a screw in replacement fixture that I can just connect a flush-mounted LED fixture as it will definitely be cheaper in the long run.
Incidentally, I have already replaced one bulb to the tune of $10+ for one bulb. Not really the kind of "savings" I was looking for when I saw they were installing these CFL fixtures in the first place.
