Any other Big Brother (US) fans waiting in anticipation for the new season to start July 9? I admit I get hooked on this show every summer. It's fascinating to watch how strangers interact with each other and then grow closer over time. I don't care for the disputes, but it is interesting to watch how some of them get resolved. And I love the games! Any other fans here?

I watched part of one season of BB UK on the Internet one year. It was pretty cool, but not near as cool as ours! :lol
 
I've seen bits and pieces and turned it off for good after the second or third season. I don't see the appeal of these programs as the objective is to show people at their worse and promote conflict all for the sake of viewers. It's little more than manipulation of emotionally unstable/troubled people. I feel we shouldn't be "entertained" at watching people at their lowest.

Oh I don't see it that way at all. I've always been an observer of people and so I find it interesting to watch people interact with each other. As someone who is interested in psychology and sociology, I find it fascinating how when you put a group of people together for a time, you notice how they create bonds, share with each other, protect each other, laugh with each other, fall in love...But then people also break bonds, lie to each other and develop animosity towards each other. These are the negatives of the show, but also in life. Occasionally, there will be a Christian or two in the group and it's neat to watch how they reach out to their housemates. It's a mixed bag of emotions and events when you get people together and I find it very interesting.

Yes, but remember that many of these shows, through careful editing, want to focus on the drama and conflict (and people behaving badly). There is very little reality in some cases. I've seen more than one reality show participant complain that through unfair editing their comments were totally taken out of context. Also, do you think that if a Christian person brought someone to Jesus Christ it would get any airtime? No way! Remember too the political agenda of Hollywood.

I just don't think these shows have much credibility and do end up manipulating people to boost their ratings. It's to their advantage to paint people in the worst light possible because that is (unfortunately) what people want to see.

I guess what I'm saying is more of a complaint against reality TV in general. The only reality show I have watched over the years is COPS. Its real life and they show the police officers helping people and not just chasing down criminals.

Yep, I've been addicted to Big Brother for about three seasons now. Sadly, I missed the season premier which makes me annoyed! Doesn't the show air three times a week though? One day for the Head of Household competition, second for the Veto competition, and third for the vote?
 
Yep, that's right. And I believe it shows on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday nights. Which means it's coming on tonight. :)

Yep, I just checked the TV guide! I'll be watching it in a half hour, and will return with my thoughts. I missed the first episode though, so I have a bit of ground to cover.
 
I enjoyed watching Big Brother for the first time this summer. For starters, I think the idea of breaking up the house guests into cliques was an interesting idea, but I don't think it is really going to have any impact on the relationship of the guests. I also think Shema is going to be the first to go home. Both her and Ronnie made a big mistake by making moves so early in the game, which essentially puts a target on their backs.
 
I wasn't quite sure what to think of the whole clique thing. But I agree, I don't think it'll have much impact on how the houseguests relate.

I learned quite a lesson last night during episode 2. One of the houseguests had said something about judging a book by its cover. And I thought (regarding Jessie, who I didn't care for originally) if there was anyone who could be judged by his cover, it's him. It seemed to me like he was all about muscle and pride. Well, the Lord convicted me on that one! Especially after I saw Jessie wearing a Christian t-shirt. :oops
