HeIsRisen2018 has a hunger for knowledge, but she also has a learning disability as we need to keep it plain and simple as jasonc did in post #6. Thought I would throw that out there.

My little Sister is growing in the Lord, and I love to see it! And don't look now but she's even interested in apologetics ;)

That's one of those big words you can't really get from context. When you want to know how to explain your Faith to someone else who doesn't believe, the big fancy word for that is apologetics. Even without knowing the word you still want to DO it, because Jesus lives in you and with you!

That makes me extremely happy to hear! Although sometimes I might not feel like Jesus is with me, I am demonstrating the fact that He is through my actions and I didn't even realize it. :cross

the greek , koine, Is the poor mans tounge. its called low greek aka slang, English is a very hard language to translate to from more precise languages that simply describe things in depth , many words we use are vague.

The English language is constantly changing. We wouldn't understand a word of Old English. The King James Bible is written in what is technically called "Late Middle English."
Nobody today speaks it. (Except preachers)
If you want to understand the Bible better, use a modern translation. The New King James updates the language to what is spoken today and is a reliable translation.

"Blind yourselves and be blind!"
That is talking about people who refuse to even look at what is true.
They are like people who refuse to read the Bible because they don't want to know what it says about what they are doing that is self destructive. (But lots of fun)
They have chosen to make themselves as good as blind because they will not see the truth which could set them free from the bondage to sin and death.

This is THE primary reason that Eugene Peterson created MSG the way he did! His thinking is that KJV appeals only to "our Sunday best," (if we can even understand it) and doesn't help us when we need it most.

Whereas

Jesus spoke in the language of common folk, so Life would be available to us, especially when we need it most. So Eugene tried to use common every day language as much as possible.

In Isaiah chapter six we see a command to speak to the people so that with their eyes they won't see and with their ears they won't hear

Is 6:9 He said, "Go, and tell this people: Keep on listening, but do not perceive; Keep on looking, but do not understand. Render the heart of this people insensitive, Their ears dull and their eyes dim....

So Isaiah is doing that. In Is 29:9 we see that Isaiah is telling the people to "Stay themselves" or "Blind themselves" might even be a better way to put it. Now they could turn to the Lord and seek Him and He would open their eyes, but people like to lean on their own understanding instead of seeking the Lord. So Isaiah is simply telling them to do what they want to do, and lean on their own understanding. And in this way : that is letting them and even telling them to turn to themselves instead of Him, He is putting a spirit of sleep on them and speaking to them so that with their eyes they won't see and with their ears they won't hear His voice.

If that happens to people, the word of the Lord becomes the writings instead of the voice of the Lord speaking to them personally. That is why you see Is 29:11 The entire vision will be to you like words of a sealed book. So indeed in Acts you see the majority of the Jews, a people who knew the book but often did not seek the Lord like the Book said to do, fail to realize what was happening with the Lord poured out His Spirit on those few devote believers that were seeking the Lord and not just the writings.

There is a reason for all this which is seen in Isaiah 29:13 Then the Lord said, "Because this people draw near with their words and honor Me with their lips service, But they remove their hearts far from Me. And their reverence fo Me consists of tradition learned by rote.

People are people and we can learn from the mistakes of those before us. Do we make it about tradition learned by rote, or do we actually draw near to the Lord and seek what He has to say? Do we lean on our understanding, or do we seek the Lord for His understanding and what He has to say to us? If not, He is liable to just start telling you to go ahead and lean on your own understanding, and He might tell the prophet in the land to speak to you so that you do lean on your understanding or the tradition of men instead of seeking Him.

The book is not hard to understand. It is there to get you to seek Him, but if you are going to just give lip service to that idea, then blind yourself. Go ahead. Lean on your own understanding if that is what you want to do. Or I guess you could actually start seeking the Lord and what He has to say. How is it that in Acts everyone of the devout men heard what was being said in their own language when they all spoke and thus heard in all different languages, and the non-devote believers thought they were drunk and didn't understand any of what was being said. It is not that they spoke in different languages. They spoke in tongues, but they heard from the Lord and got thus got the translation in their own language in their heart. The non-believer didn't hear so didn't get the translation and thus though they were drunk.

Is 29:9 they are drunken, but not with wine, they stagger, but not with strong drink.

They didn't know or understand, and that because they gave lip service to knowing the Lord.

When the NT speaks to being turned over to a reprobate mind, do you think it's the same basic thing you're elucidating here?

:thumbsup great explanation.

I'm not sure if you remember this or not but that was one of the verses that I heard through one of my first spiritual experiences.
