Brussel Sprouts vs. Strawberry Shortcake. I pick the shortcake! :yes

I've never had brussel sprouts, but I keep meaning to try. I've also never had asparagus, but meaning to try those too. I'm so culinarily behind! :bigcry

Strawberry shortcake is yum.

I pick Brussel Sprouts, I just love them. For some reason, I am not fond of cake at all. I do like strawberries fresh, but not better than steamed brussels. In our family, though, if you put a bowl of each on the table they both will be devoured in short order.

JoJo, I can't believe that you haven't tried the brussels or asparagus. I am steaming asparagus tonight, so get over here, and the bunch looks very young and tender too. The brussels steamed with butter and sea salt are amazing. Catch up already!

I thought the same, before I read your post. :)

My sister often cooks for me the most delicious curries using Brussel Sprouts (one of the many perks of having such a caring sister :tongue ) The next time I speak with her, I'll try to remember to get the recipe from her. It may be a little too spicy for some (its not the fake stuff you get in take-aways) but add a little milk to it and it should make it mild enough for most tastes. I'll add it to the recipe thread.

I would love to see it. We love hot stuff in our home, because my husband has grown up eating hot and spicy Mexican food. Thanks.

We have a recipe's thread? Caroline would love a good recipe that gets me to east brussel sprouts. I'm with you JoJo, I'm just not a fan of either brussel sprouts or asparagas.

Oh Gabe! You are making me so hungry!! I love curries...the real stuff. But you should know, whatever recipe you use in the U.S is going to turn out a bit different because the curry powder is not the same....unless you find an Asian friend who can get you some of the good stuff. We found that out when we moved back to the States.

As far as Brussels over Cake...It depends on what mood I'm in. If I'm eating a good roast dinner or something like that then I want brussel sprouts. If I'm in a mood for desert then I want the strawberry short cake :)

This entire thread is making me hungry. :biggrin Also, in Asian cooking we rarely measure anything; its always a pinch of this or a spoon of that, so a little experimenting is in order until you learn the amount which suits your taste from sight.

I really would like to try them. I watch the Food Network a lot and have seen them make both and they both do look really appetizing. I guess I'm just afraid I wouldn't know how to make them on my own. But I'm learning to try new things for my family. I think what it comes down to is that I generally serve my family what my mother served us. She never made brussels sprouts, asparagus, artichokes, mushrooms...so I never got in the habit of making them. But I'd like to try! (except mushrooms)

I have had brussel sprouts before and they do not taste good to me. They are also way too salty. Fresh strawberries taste much better! :yes

I do like veggies, just not brussel sprouts. I like asparagus too, but not sure if I like it better then strawberries. It all depends on my mood and what I am craving. Allthough, I rarely crave asparagus. Sometimes it is too slimy, so I prefer the leafy part of the asparagus.

Brussel Sprouts vs. Fried Chicken?

Brussel Sprouts vs. Fried Chicken? Which tastes better? I pick fried chicken! :yes

Re: Brussel Sprouts vs. Fried Chicken?

You're joking, right? :lol Plus, why does it have to be fried? Why not baked or grilled? :biggrin

Re: Brussel Sprouts vs. Fried Chicken?

Dave, Don't you know civil wars have been fought so that different things can exist in harmony?

Re: Brussel Sprouts vs. Fried Chicken?

Being English and brought up on roast dinners, like a true Englishman, I should by rights love brussel sprouts, however I dont!!!

Its a black mark against my name!!!!
