I consider it an interesting health habit. The aroma brings me back to the days as a youth and relieves any tension and anxiety, especially since I basically only drive into and out of work 10 miles 3 days a week takes my mind off the thought of a job I can care less about.

Of course if I have the windows up, I can only burn it about 5 minutes just enough to get the scent all around due to the poor ventilation; I don't make my car smoky. But during the summer time like this, I have the windows fully down, and I realize probably I am letting 99% of the smoke out of the windows, but what circulates around gives a nice, calming atmosphere, so due to the pleasantness, I don't consider my money "going up in smoke" or consider it a loss.

Usually I burn Sandalwood which according to one site is "Burned to exorcise demons and evil ghosts, conjure beneficial spirits, and promote spiritual awareness."

Of course my "demons" are the thoughts I have not liking my job, and I exorcise that by the pleasant aroma taking me back to happier times --- a certain feeling that things are normal again.

Why don't you like your Job?

It's boring and what you'd consider dead-end. I once had an interesting, gainfully employed career in a similar field, but got laid off and they tore the building down. But I'm getting too old and short of money to go back to college as this economy won't hire someone ready to retire in a few short years. In addition, as we get to become senior citizens, I get the distinct impressionthat we are expected to "volunteer" or work for Walmart's for little or no money, even if we had a Master's Degree. Makes me wonder where the younger generation thinks the money's going to come from as they would squawk soon enough if they were not paid. :chin (Wait until it's their turn).

So, since this is the health section, to get back on track, this is one thing I do to relieve the stress. I'm fine at home here today, don't need it. BP was 107/71 not bad for a 53-year-old. As a matter of fact, that's actually brushing on the low side and I should drink some tea or something to bring it up a notch. But that's how relaxed I am being away from the place.

This is off-topic.... the WalMarts in my part of the Midwest no longer have senior citizen greeters at the doors .... when I asked why not, I was told it was a cost-cutting measure during these extreme economic times. This means we don't even have that option for employment after retirement....*sigh*

I once used a candle in my car until a car of girls pulled up next to me and laughed... never again.

Back in the days when I drove my wife's sports car to work, I remember being stopped at a light and two girls pulling up next to me (it was a two-laned road going to the airport) and they laughed as one asked the question, "Pardon me. Do you have any Grey Poupon?" Mimicking that ad that was popular back in the 80's.

At the time it was strange and even a tad embarrassing, but looking back, that's how some girls show they are attracted to you in some way. Your candle probably shown you were different in some way-- not to take it personally. In my case, probably it was more the car than me. :lol

In the car Tim ? I did not even do that in my hippie days.

Let me highlight some of the things I said.... again.

Of course if I have the windows up, I can only burn it about 5 minutes just enough to get the scent all around.....I don't make my car smoky....

AND

But during the summer time like this, I have the windows fully down, and I realize probably I am letting 99% of the smoke out of the windows, but what circulates around gives a nice, calming atmosphere....

Tonight we had rain and T-storms and I drove home from work with the windows up and AC on so I did not burn any.

BTW, my wife hates incense so she told me to burn it in the car. I used to burn it in one room in the corner, but even that bothered her. As for the car, it clears out after one good drive with the windows down for a few miles; there's no residual that I can smell (in case she ever needs to drive it).

I LOVE to burn incense in my car. Here I thought my husband and I were the only ones who did it. I keep wondering if I'm going to get pulled over because a cop will think I'm hot boxing.... not yet. My mom hates the smell and it gives her a headache. It helps me relax too. And I could be entertained for hours by the smoke designs.

Heck, I was in a minor accident recently and nobody wondered about the incense. They did not even look in my car. Of course I was not burning it at the time, but Mr. B (a reclining skeleton holder who looks like he's smoking it) was in full view of the passenger side floor regardless.

There's concerns about what a COP would think if he saw you burning it (as if one is trying to cover up the scent of something else) but the truth is its no different than car air freshners, sprays and for your breath even mints! There is nothing illegal about it, and just put it out if you are pulled over. Heck, as I pass a manure field is a lot stronger than the incense in my car so "covering something up" does not cut it as an excuse. And even if you do make it too smoky, it could be mistaken for a cigarette so nobody's going to stop you even if they see smoke. Something else has to happen for anyone to pull you over.

It could be used as reasonable suspicion to search your car without a warrant. I am a fan of my rights... including burning incense in my hoopty!

Yeah, I would not expect gen x or a jelly-chinned gaveling judge to understand my generation. But my point was that there are other things that make scents in the car, so why not search them? I'll tell you why, because burning incense in the car is not "normal" we all know that, right? Well, a lot of what I see around me I don't consdier normal, either. It's always amusing to a degree to see those be it in LE, government, or any other position of authority tell you how to run your own life when they can't even manage their own household. My house, my kids, my beliefs, etc etc are in fine order and probably better than theirs, thank you. :lol

Fedusenko: I guess the police already know what incense is, really.

Hannah:

Well, I don't know; I don't think you need to worry, really.

(And who knows: hot boxing might even in the end be legalized, sooner or later.)
