I want to know what other web designers charge for their services. Do you charge hourly, or by the package. What are your rates?

Webdesign is not my meet and potatoes, but when I do work for others, I charge by the project.

I suppose part of the reason I charge by the project is because I do not trust myself to keep track of time spent, or to spend quality time for full hrs at a time. But thats just me. (also, ive found myself, and clients, to be skeptical of ppl who do charge by the hr.)

What I charge depends on who the work is being done for, and what all it involves. I would not charge a nonprofit organization as much as I would a business. A graphic rich site would be more than one that is not. Same for programming/no programming.

I can give you an example of an upcoming design I am doing for a business. It will be a small site, with hosting provided, and updates for a year. $180-$200

I started out in design 4 yrs ago.

Our Company also usually charges by the project in hand. Prices are not only determined by the complexity of design but also for the website's purpose. For example, I may charge a customer more money for a website design that is going to make their business a large profit, like an auto dealership, compared to a small business that may post an informational website. Flash or Dynamic Pages, Programming, and Secure Shopping Carts can significantly increase the cost of a web site.

All maintenance done to a website after the initial project is completed is charged by the hour. For example, we like to get at least $45 per hour for basic design / computer time and up to $120 per hour for complex coding or FLASH work. . Those rates are extremely competitive in the Orlando area for this type of work.

PureWebHosting.Net design team consist of 4 web developers. We also charge per project! We typically gather all the information relating to the site (content/links/functionality) and based off this information we determine how many pages we need to develope, what the layout is going to be, and what if any functionality are we going to be using (i.e. ecommerce, ect) Typically our sites start at around $400 - $500, for a basic site. All of our sites are custom designed and in no way are templates used. We create all sites using primarily DreamWeaver/Fireworks and most of the graphics are created using Photoshop.
