greedmas, no. to early for this.
Greed has no place....it's all about giving.

I got some new candy molds, a 5kg bar of chocolate, a new 5ft stainless steel workbench and some granite slabs. It's going to be awesome this year.

right, sure, is that why the stores during Irma here had Christmas displays? 3 months away. soon it will be in july that they peddle this. sorry, I'm not against gifts but Christmas is very commercial. I'm sure the local bazaars like places in Pauls days didn't sell Christmas trees and the church was about giving.

irony here is that I make more money from tips this time of the year.

Why should I care about somebody else making a nickel?
Sure it's heavily marketed and commercialized...that's because people have no thoughts about others till it begins. We think about this all year long.

Poor behavior on someone's else's part has no bearing on my behavior and attitudes. Just because some rich schmuck in a boardroom somewhere that I don't know is greedy I should not get excited and enjoy giving cookies and happy memories?
Makes no sense to me either but it's the position you seem to be promoting.

neither do we need any holiday to do that only once a year.

so you don't mind the fighting and excessive prices for paying for the same thing the next month at one third of the price? I don't need Christmas. my dlsr was a gift given before thanksgiving.

the point is its that the retail business will become so enamored with shoppers that the very workers who want to spend time with their family simply cant as they wont have the time. a few hours off. try visiting family when you are working like that. not all can. Walmart here was open on Christmas day, it closed at noon. it opened the next day at 6.

And not a bit of that has anything to do with me or my attitude.
My attitude is the ONLY thing I own.

But it is good to know that total strangers have complete control over your attitude.

Christmas is the time of year that I have license to give away stuff I've purchased all year long and cookies and candies I've made with talents I got at chef school. I can give the stuff away with license and say "Merry Christmas". Any other time of year people look at ya funny and refuse the gifts. But Christmas is awesome in this fashion. My giving and loving nature can fully express itself without hesitation or reservation.

Nobody and I do mean nobody really remembers what gifts were under the tree last year or ten years ago...but the memories of getting ready for Christmas all come back to a person in a rush with happy smiles. The time spent baking cookies and decorating trees and houses is the really golden part. Those memories last lifetimes. By Christmas Day it's all over but the indegestion from the big meal.
I don't care about Walmart... never will. It's store hours have no relevance in my world.

Here's something that may help you to arrive at a peace of mind during the season of peace.

Why worry about what anyone who is still in the world does on Christmas? There are over 7 billion individuals inhabiting this planet and only one you.
Celebrate Christmas for what it means to you. While other Christians shall do the same. We're only responsible for what we do as one sealed with the holy spirit of God. Live the example, not the warning.
Others are simply not your business.

Nor are they mine.

I don't ignore my shopping on days that affect others .

I have worked retail. I prefer not too.it's like this after going to church I choose to tell the waiter he needs to be church after I'm the reason he is working.

I know plenty that do shop early ,but plenty dont.I dont need Christmas to see family. My fil sees me more then once a year.my mom even more then that.

So forgive me if I don share your love of family since I work on christmas. My choice Yes.so keep that in mind.people love those discounts on cookies.yup I deliver papers and it has those on Christmas day and eve specials.

There's more to the world then you with your family, others can't .I do recall actually not able to shop on chrustmas eve,day fir sure and on Sunday.not even a gas station, convience store is open

Sorry dad,I'm too tired to stay with you longer ,too tired to drive if I dont rest and I must be up on the 26th. So yes I should be joyous about that.

Now you know why I have this view.

This year because of a useless man,and a necessity my wife will be away to assist her daughter. I will likely not bother having a tree.pointless.any family visiting will be prior to December.

Why is it christians are so ingrained that you are odd if you don't need christmas.

I grew up without it.I see holidays for what we make them as we make money off them.forgive me if I actually get disgusted about commercialism.it's a sin,bad attitude to actually see the greed and sick irony of chrustmas songs played menationing the gospel while men fight to get things?

I should ignore that.? That's really all I meant about the use of greedmas.

I know the both sides of christmas as far as arguments.

I remember watching a news broadcast during black Friday last year. People lined up at the doors of a department store to get in earlier than the store normally opened. The store was having super discounts that first day of the official holiday shopping season.
The point of the news report was to inform of the number of people that had been injured in the stampede of people through the doors.
I remember thinking, how does someone who just stomped people under their feet, one report even had a fatality occuring at a different location, derive joy watching someone open the gifts they acquired in that manner.

Commercializing Christmas was a direct intent of retail manufacturers to draw attention away from the religious reason for the season , and toward their bottom line. Especially being the new tax year for retailers starts in January.
I remember one state I lived in had a law that inventory tax would re-apply to any merchandise not sold from the season before. It then behooved retailers to get rid of as much as they could to avoid double taxation.

Meanwhile, Jesus is the reason for the season as we know. People don't have to do anything to celebrate Christmas. It's an individual choice however, in this world that fuels itself on drama, I think something that brings people joy isn't a bad thing. It is all in how one looks at it.
Some people give, some people enjoy receiving. Others ignore the holiday, or holy day, all together.
It really isn't an issue unless we make it one.

I dint need christmas to use or loan my talents fir free.I spent two hours blessing a nam vet by cutting his fallen tree and helping in its removal. One of four.

LoOKs like another few bad days of cynicism. I have to avoid that.but I won't digress this thread on my emotional shielding further.some of this is from that.

Kinda late now.
You killed it.

But I'm excited to give all my many friends, my coworkers, wife's friends and colleagues, and wife's family tons of cookies, candies and junk.

Because I might not have much family to celebrate with...but I enjoy giving and not receiving at Christmas. Decorating gingerbread houses (I usually make several so that other families get to try) eating homemade cookies (I get sick of them by the time January gets here) and this year I'm adding chocolate candies.

I haven't tempered chocolate in a while....I don't think that the laws of physics has changed any since I done it last (30 years ago). But hey....there isn't anything in a box of Whitman that I can't make.

A batch of Carmel might be in order.... heavy cream and sugar and....

yay, thanksgiving. I'm growing to love Thanksgiving, as I get older. No cheesy constumes like Halloween, far less pressure than Christmas (in my world, anyway), the weather is cool, but not cold (here where I am), the food is good, family together time, etc.

I think I want to do something for the parents this Thanksgiving. I made the pumpkin pies last year, no big thing. Maybe homemade caramel apples this year? I tried it one year...I think I added too much cream or something...the result was great on ice cream, not solid enough for caramel apples. Ugh. There's always this year....

good post, btw. :)

No one knows and its usually cold in isreal in December, depending on your location.bethelem is a mountainous region.i never saw the Shepard in the snow or cold moving their sheep in Afghanistan. Summer and fall, spring I did.
