we need a womens only forum and a mens only forum, so that younger people can seek advice on sensitive topics from older, more experienced people (experienced in their faith and in their life in general)

it would of course not be compulsory to join said group / so if you didn't like what was being discussed you could just not go there or if you wanted to have a multi-gender discussion then you could do so :)

some topics in my womens only section of another (younger-style) Christian forum include: masturbation, brazillian waxing, menstrual periods, labour and birth stories / questions, and a number of other things, you can see why these things would be more openly and honestly discussed if it were in a fairly closed - gender invironment?? (I would personally appreciate discussions about certain things with older women and not with a whole lot of teens which is the main population of said other forum)

Of course this is the internet and said groups would have to contain a reminder to all it's members that it is never a guarantee that someone who says they are a certain gender actually are but there is always a risk, nothing on the internet is %100 secure... but i think it would help.

Young people are dealing with a lot more than we know (or would like to admit) and i think that the experience a lot of us older Christians could offer would be very valuable, excluding 'underage' people would be counter productive to this (as they could falsely declare their age anyhow).

The moderators of said groups (who should, needless to say, also be of the same gender as the group members...) should monitor content and post to reign things in (as they already do) if they think it is necessary.

I would volunteer to moderate a womens one if there aren't any female moderators, but i don't think i'm allowed as i'm in Australia :)

Amie, give it some time. I had to wait a few weeks to get the college forum way back when. As for the mod thing, I think we'll have the staff we'll need, but there is no reason we wouldn't allow an aussey to Mod. Afterall, we did just promote gabriel and he's from England.

I'm from Wales, Tim. It's like England, except more run-down and the Queen never visits. :biggrin

I am nearly 71 years old, and have never before heard of "brazillian waxing". So, if you hadn't mentioned these things in an open-gender environment, I probably would never have been exposed to the term. I had to do a google search to find out what it meant.

Thanks! This fact seems to support my stance.

There's a difference between finding out something to one's benefit on a gender specific thread, and something that doesn't edify on an open gendered one. Are you better off now that you know what it is? :lol

I agree and would like to see it, but I agree with John it might defeat the whole purpose (being really open) if the gender can't be enforced (thinking practically how could it be :confused ) anyone can lie just to see what is going on.

If the mods come up with a brilliant foolproof way then great as more people of one gender might really open and discuss things that I would NEVER do even with my own husband (there are things he just doesn't want to hear or know about 'women secret things' :biglaugh )

In the past, we've had non-Christians pose as Christians in the Talk & Advice forum (a forum which i personally consider to be of a lot more importance than a male or female only forum). The occasional sock-puppeting is to be expected on the internet. I don't see this as a strong enough reason to oppose the idea. If someone is childish enough to open up a seperate account with CF, more than likely, the admin will catch on to it and if someone admits to being of the opposite gender, then we could always give them an immediate ban.

At the moment, we have issues like masturbation and brazilian waxing being reluctantly discussed in a completely open forum, which is being viewed by not only the male and female members of the board, but also by an unlimited number of guests who happen to be surfing the net.

Gabriel has brought up an exce;;ent point about not only having gender forums to keep (some degree of) privacy from the opposite sex but also from the general www world. I know it is possible to make a particular group / forum non Google or Yahoo searchable for example, and this may allow people to be more comfortable discussing certain things if their posts weren't going to be able to be found by just anyone (say, by a user name search)

Thanks Gabriel.

Both concerns can be solved easily enough given the right perameters for the Gender based forums. The gender issue can be more or less solved by adding a gender mod to the forums and then only permitting users who have submitted their gender to participate in the gender based forums.

The second issue is solved by making this partiulcar forum viewable only by those users who have been permitted to be a part of the forum's group. This can be done with simple permission assignments.

Once again, there is a topic being discussed in CT&A that should be gender-specific. Is there any new talk with the owner(s) about adding this feature?
