My "opinion".

1 John 2:15-17
(15) Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
(16) For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
(17) And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.

"worldlyness" is to be far from a chritians life. We should be different form the world. This includes "gothic attire", "effeminate looks", "fanatic sports wear"...etc

We are here to represent a loving Christ who shed his blood on the cross of calvary to save us from our sin, to make us separate!!

Sin is darkness, rightoeusness is light!

Whether we are lived in darkness of drunkenessor adultery or satanism ...etc We are to be a new creature in Christ. (llCor. 5:17) Look a new way, sing a new song, live a new life, talk a new talk...etc

John 1:4-12
(4) In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
(5) And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
(6) There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
(7) The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
(8) He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
(9) That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
(10) He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
(11) He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
(12) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Christianity is always related to light, not darkness. Thats satan's desire - darkness!

So whether it's a dark dingy bar room, or a dark face, makeup, nails, hair...etc it needs to be turned from and brought into light.

1 Peter 2:9
(9) But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:

I have little if no experience in the fads and cultures of this day and praise God for it, I was just a cast out growing up and didnt have to be cool and fit in.

I had friends in every social step, but didnt fake anything in my life to get them.

After i quit school i worked had a nd smoke alot of weed and partied, thats not really a fad or culture just a stoner.

After i got saved i didnt desire to smoke the pot or even still live like a stoner without smoking weed.

I got a life and a more abundant one at that.

Why would i desire to still have links to a past that Christ shed his blood to save me from? I shouldnt!!

So I ask, why would you want to look or live like a worldly or lost person if you are truly saved from sin and are washed in the blood of Christ?

Sell out to God and live separate from the world for his sake!

Romans 6:1-6
(1) What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
(2) God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
(3) Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
(4) Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
(5) For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
(6) Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

Didnt mean to get to preachy, but hey!

Thats my name!!

My two cents from another post:

I'm suprised at some of the close mindedness of the body of Christ. Honestly i can't blame many people who stay away from a christian way of living because of some of the christians who make a way of living into a way to avoid living. If black nail polish is a sin and to be condemned then we have a problem.

As far as the issue of it being a color, or lack of color, that should not matter because if the 'color' black is evil, what about africa? Ponder that.

Ok, now that it is logically disproven that black is sinful, now moving onto appearance.

We as Christians are supposed to be walking billboards for Christ. People are supposed to look at us and think, "wow, i want whatever that person has!" Appearance plays a role in that. If you were to dress like freddy kruger, frown all the time and glare at people, do you think people are going to want to have what you have, meaning Jesus? I doubt it. We are made in God's image and his awsomeness should shine through us. Plus, we have to be approachable. Now i am not saying that it's fair, but there is something about a person wearing a trench coat, who looks like they haven't bathed in weeks, that is makes aproaching them seem like a frigthening ordeal. We need to be easily approached! People need to feel safe and able to talk to us about whatever and ask questions.

Think about this: You may be the only thing seperating someone from heaven and hell.

Honestly that scares me. We must always be ready to do Gods work. Perhaps you dress 'gothic' and tell someone that you're a Christian, they ask you why you don't act like it and you get mad and ruin that persons view of our faith. It's possible. Maybe on that one really bad day someone cuts you off while driving, you give them the finger as you drive around em and they catch a glimse of your 'Jesus fish' on your bumper.

The reality is that people are watching us closely because they want a reason not to turn from their sin, people by nature sin and want to sin. Your every action is seen. And if you give someone a reason to be anti-christian, you give them what they had been looking for. Conversly if we do what is right, stay our tongues, love everyone as Christ did and don't give reason for anyone to take an anti-christian attitude, then it will affect them in a positive way.

Black nail polish isn't going to turn people away. Dressing 'Gothic' increases the chance of turning people away. But when it comes down to it, it is your attitude and your actions that will either turn someone away or help bring them to Christ.

If you can be a light unto the world for Christ while wearing black nail polish, go right ahead. If you can be a light unto the world for Christ while dressing 'goth' feel free. But should either hinder that ability, you must not do it.

Lastly, i think it is obvious that the Gothic culture needs to be reached out to. Jesus lived in the culture, he chilled with prostitutes and tax collectors because they needed him the most.

Matthew 9:12 "But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick."

So if you can be gothic and spread the love of christ to those around you, then it's perfectly encourageable!

In fact, that may be your mission calling, to spread Jesus to the goth population.

Its funny really, to say Satan would dress like that, my girlfriend saw Satan (a sihlilotte) he spoke to her, saying she wasn't worthy enough to see his face (this was at her breaking point before coming back to God several years ago) but anyway, one of the great tricks Satan has is that he'll look so nice and kind, think about it, what BETTER way to trick someone? He's NOT going to be obvious about ANYTHING, until it's too late, so about the whole "He'd dress as a goth" I think he'd dress for the occasion in my opinion, different costumes for different people. As for paying preaching the word while dressed as the devil, who are other goths more likely to listen to, some clean-cut, teen, or another goth? (not saying they wouldn't, given time and such, but still)
well put CGD.. well put indeed.

I always thought Goths looked like really sad clowns. But as far as it being wrong, not really. It depends. Clothing is just how you present yourself. I mean, it's only to the people who don't dress in Goth that are going to have a problem with it. Besides, what about the whole "judging people on appearance." I think most Goths are just people who honor themselves as social exiles, but still. It is merely clothing. The implications it presents are not your fault. Just be ready to accept the preconcieved notions people make about you, and hey, maybe you can prove them wrong.

Agreed, but i wouldn't say it isn't completely unimportant what about nudists?  just kidding.

No but seriously, appearance isn't a major thing, it is what's on the inside, although redecorating never hurts haha plus we are supposed to by approachable by people in the culture, and if you dress yourself what so ever these days you'll fit into some niche of the culture. That would be your mission field.

I truthfully do not see a reason to goths from any religion or belief. What is the point of all the make-up and cutting *If i'm not mistaken for emos.*.

And it really upsets me that they act depressed for no reason but to be a poser in front of everybody else; it upsets me because there are other people that seriously go through things that are ACTUALLY depressing: divorce, molestation, sex, murder, bullying....

If you're trully depressed, I don't care, but you don't need all the make-up and wrist-cutting. Believe me, those are not the answers. ^_^

EDIT: Oh, and by the way, I DO NOT believe that goths, emos, whatevers worship the devil. Whoever thinks it have serious problems and do not know what Satanists are. ^_^

Gothic is a style, not a way of life as most see it as. That's the point. People who choose to dress goth are just as valued and love and used by the Lord our God. Make no mistake of that. Most people who dress goth don't fit the stereotype previously mentioned.

I would just like to say that you CAN NOT be goth. It is an era in time. You can not be an era in time. You can dress how the people did from the gothic era but they did NOT wear all black with chains. Therefore these so call “Goths†who dress in black are not really Goths at all.

God wants us to live in the world, not of it, so there is no problem with liking a style. I can't quote anyhting off the top of my head but there IS scripture, God wants us to live in the owlrd and not of it, meaning that as long as he is our number one priority doing other things is fine.

Jesus did NOT die for us to be seperarated from the rest of the world, far from it, that is NOT th point of christianity. Following a style is no more worldly than wearing clothes, so preacher boy why are you saying that goth clothing is?

There is no where in the bible that says we should not live a life like other people, just a more full one, nothing prevents you from following a style, unless itdefines your personality and seperates you from the chrisitian mindset.

I know alot of goths that are just normal, some christian, not the my life sucks kind, where their life really doesn't suck. If you can be goth and follow the Lord, then if you want to do it! Apperance doesn't mean anything to other true chrisitians, if they are good people then accept them as good people.

Satans color is not black, it's just that black is a dark and dull color, while white is more closer to the light, these colors are just representitives in peoples minds, God does not care what someone wears if they are close to him, and neither should another chrisitan.

in my high school, goth is no longer a cult thing or whatever you guys have been talking about. it is merely what you wear and what music you listen to. most of the time they are not christian, but that doesnt mean they couldnt be. a lot of them like skillet and the dead poetic and christian bands like that, and many of them are very nice. they are just lost like every other sinner in this world. but i have met some good, christian people that really love God and are not afraid to show it that would be classified as "goth" by their clothes and stuff. i met this one very nice guy at the world pulse fest, and while a lot of teenagers were afraid to show any emotion or to openly worship God, he wasnt.

It depends on what you define as Goth, a good guideline as to whether one can be a Goth and a Christian is the Bible. If you behave/listen/talk in an unbiblical manner by being a Goth then it is wrong. For example, I used to listen to bands such as Burzum, Dark Funeral, Dark Throne, Marduk, Behemoth, Mayhem, Carpathian Forest and some notorious Satanic French bands from the 'Black Legions' movement. The latter bands quite clearly, are unbiblical, ungodly and idolatrous, thus they made my own spirit unclean and put a huge distance between me and God. Thankfully He pulled me back before it became disastrous. Furthermore, the merchandise of such bands, and other Gothic clothing/jewellery actually, usually have ungodly images or symbols. These things alone will invite nasty things into your life, as I found out. Also, all that sort of stuff (especially music) is like a hook into your spirit and will slowly begin to change you.

So yes, my advice is check anything you're not sure of with The Word of God.

Try the bands Saviour Machine, The Awakening, Virgin Black, Dead Artist Syndrome, I-DRAGON-I (formerly Wedding Party). They're all Chrisitan Gothic Rock and Goth Metal (atleast Virgin Black is, with a hint of black metal at times thrown in) bands.

Thanks, I will check 'em out. :)

This is one of my favourite Christian bands: Holy Blood.

Being goth isn't simply dressing in black. Lots of poeple dress in black. Lots of poeple just like the color. But being gothic is usually the result of how a person feels. And in my opinion is just another way of expressing someting that goes much deeper then the image it gives you...

Well, the Ostrogoths tended to be Arian heretics and the Visigoths were pretty bad about that as well. At the end of the 500s, the Visigothic King Reccared became a Catholic though, so there were some Christian Goths of both groups.

Hello all I'm new to these forums, and this my first topic, what is your opinion such things as this?
Hmmmmm.I really don't believe there is such a thing as a christian goth.i mean just because you wear trips and think your dark doesn't make you goth. You cannot be two religions, Luke 16:13
"No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other."
I think you should either choose one or the other, christianity, or ummm, a Satanic cult. :nono

I honestly HATE religion, religion kills, that is not what Christianity is though nor is goth a religion lol, goth is a subculture of men and women; gosh that was a long time ago I wrote that; I'm still doing the goth thing, its amazing I still get nibbles and bites on all sorts of topics I've started or posted on from atleast 4 years ago. Hi all.

I think you have a serious misunderstanding of what the goth subculture is.
It's not a Satanic cult.
Perhaps you should look into it a little more?

When it comes to being 'goth'... One could dress goth and be perfectly fine as a christian.

But when it comes to goth, when I was involved with wicca and satanic things like that, most of my friends were goth. That could be coincidence, or it could be for a reason, I'll let you judge that.

As far as I'm concerned, in order to assure my walk with Christ, I need to distance myself as far away from my past life as I can. To me, gothic things reminded me of my lifestyle with wicca and what not.

Will it mix with Christianity? Goth, of course. Subcultures of goth, perhaps not.
