Like A Prayer, is very tuneful; it's also a protest about Southern lynchings. (But I wish she wouldn't keep taking her clothes off...)
hardly. I watched the video its from the movie called reality bites. what does reality bites have anything to do with black lynchings? nothing.

I saw a video clip, that goes with the Madonna song Like A Prayer, and there is what looks like a lynching scene in there.

Blessings.

Sounds good. It's good to apply a bit of logic here. Some bad, does not mean, all bad. Metal and rock musicians with tattoos, does not mean, therefore all metal and rock is bad. I think for example Disciple's Battle Lines, which questdriven reaffirms, above, is within the metal mainstream, is a very effective presentation of Biblical truth.

Blessings.
I call it good old commonsense. Logic is overated in my opinion.

Yes, well it's common sense to take a piece of music of whatever style on it merits. If it communicates faith and Biblical truth well, more power to it. I think for example Disciple's Battle Lines, a heavy metal track, is very effective. It's not voided by the metal. A good track isn't voided by the careful use of screams, if they are done in a measured way. A good Christian metal or rock musician isn't made to no effect if s/he - and it may be a she as well as a he - has tattoos, etc. Like you say, it's common sense.

Blessings.

I like rock and metal. I go on lyrics. Music is music and everyone has there own taste. I cannot see how a distorted guitar or bashing drums or shouting loud, is "evil'. Its only a voice and musical instruments. Its the lyrics behind them thats the issues. And it not just some metal. Its all groups of music.

It's the lyrics which count for a lot; the style is more subjective.

Yeah, please don't turn this into a discussion on tattoos. I have nothing against mentioning it so I really have no problem with what's been briefly mentioned in the previous posts, but let's not make it into a discussion on it, please. We have plenty of those already and it's off topic to this thread anyway.

There's another thread for that, in any case.

So I guess your view would be that style, when it comes to music and musicians in their personal styles and preferences are subjective and not central, while what the words say or don't say are what really counts, one way or the other?

I know you do like hard rock and some metal, of course.

(This would kind of be my view, anyway.)

Blessings.

PS: questdriven: I guess your chosen avatar picture now kind of verifies the fact that you sort of cultivate a bit of a hard rock/metal image, really, right?

Blessings.

Pretty much, yeah. I think music is neutral.

That, and that I'm into the anime Soul Eater. The avatar shows kind of a combination of two things I like best, I guess. (The anime has some pretty awesome and diverse background music and character themes, too.)

Well, in terms of the hard rock/metal aspect of your current image, I guess you've come a lot way from where you were a year or two ago, right?

No regrets, then?

Blessings.

PS: My view would kind of be, whatever it takes pragmatically to communicate effectively to one's generation and age group, I guess..

Rock, particularly hard rock, seems to be one of the types I listen to and enjoy the most. That seems to be pretty consistent. But I keep discovering more and more than I like things from all kinds of genres, too.

Yes, well maybe, too, hard rock has kind of helped you discover yourself a bit, as you've grown up?

I think there are distinct stages of life, really; and a musical journey can have something to do with them.

Blessings.

In some ways, folks, Heavy Metal seems to link in with quite traditional music, such as Bach's counterpoint, etc.

To some people who have a knee-jerk hostility to 'rock/metal', etc., this might be a somewhat startling observation, actually.

Blessings.

Seems like the avatar communicates the idea 'electric', anyway...

robotech, with death metal as the back drop for the fight scenes nice!

Do you remember Paul1965, who used to post here? he was really into stuff like death metal, I think.

He is Australian; I think there are some Christian death metal bands down there.

Blessings.

I used to listen some death metal, I think. either way watch robotech on hulu and then change out the songs with say megadeth, black Sabbath and so forth. lol nice idea.
