Below is from a post here that I did in 2011.

This is a list of Christian metal bands, including bands that played Christian metal at some point in their careers. Some bands might not be listed because of a disputed status as a "Christian band."

Christian metal, also known as white metal, is heavy metal music with a Christian message. Christian metal is regarded more of a concept rather than a genre since it has no specific musical characteristics. Christian metal emerged in the late 1970s as a means of evangelization to the wider heavy metal music scene, and was pioneered by the American Resurrection Band and Swedish Jerusalem.
Los Angeles'

Stryper achieved wide success in the 1980s, otherwise the genre was mostly ignored by the mainstream. California's Tourniquet and Australia's Mortification led the movement in the 1990s. The metalcore groups Underoath, Demon Hunter, As I Lay Dying, and Norma Jean (dubbed by Revolver Magazine as "The Holy Alliance") brought some mainstream attention to the movement in the first decade of the 21st century, achieving ranks in the Billboard 200

A few current notables missing: I the Breather, The Overseer, Hands, and A Hope for Home. I also just found out about these guys yesterday, Everything in Slow Motion (new CD coming out Dec 10th on iTunes):

And from their upcoming CD:

I the Breather:

The Overseer (just finished recording their next CD):

Hi Paul1965! Good to see you back! (I'll pm you soon.) So are you still into the Christian death metal scene? or maybe there isn't so much of it around in Thailand? Blessings.

"Metal crusade" by Mortification is awesome. And it's really a bold faith statement.
(But that's basically their only song I know. :oops2)

I think your metal enthusiasm is rooted in J S Bach... :)
That's quite possible. I did like Bach before I liked metal, and before the metal enthusiasm I used to liste to classical music a lot, so my taste in music may have been shaped by Bach a lot. Some metal guitar riffs sound a lot like something Bach could have played on his organ.

I think I posted this one before: Classical and very well known German church hymn, music written by J S Bach, in a metal instrumental version. Would be even more awesome if they had a vocalist growling or screaming the lyrics.

You like screamo, too? for lyrics?

It's getting to be a popular style for vocalists; I seem to remember I was discussing it a bit on these forums with questdriven also. I think it all depends on how it is done. If it's done carefully and deliberately and in a controlled way, it can be quite effective, maybe.

Yeah I sure like the screamo lyrics. Some bands, especially metal core, mix screaming and growling with "normal" melodic singing, that's really a powerful combination.

To do it really effectively the voicing needs to be firmly in the throat, and although a rasping sound in the throat is good as well, properly done screamo needs to engage the voice as well as the breath, from well within the throat.

It really requires the correct technique. There's more than one vocalist that ruined his or her voice from screaming or growling.
I always get a sore throat after a few minutes. Still a long way to go before I can start my own christian metal band. :)

So you've tried to sing screamo, too? like, frequently?

Why do many Christians view Metal and other genres that use harsh vocals, like screaming and death growls, as anti-Christian?

Because a lot of Christians today are narrow minded legalists who cannot grasp the difference between fantasy and reality. The moment they hear drums, heavy guitars and/or screaming/death growls, they instantly label it as "satanic" without doing any research of any kind to back up their conspiracies and they automatically assume the band members are satan worshipers who kill babies and sacrifice animals to pagan gods.

Though a very small handful of guys who play in metal bands are true Satanists, the majority of metal musicians (including death metal) are normal everyday human beings who when performing on stage are doing nothing more than just putting on an act for the sake of pure entertainment. Off the stage, they enjoy life, long walks on warm sunny days and home cooked meals just as much as the average joe living next door. Their "scary imagery" is all fake and fantasy, just like Arnold Schwartzeneggar isn't really a cyborg assassin from the future.

Years ago, I went to see Cannibal Corpse in concert and got to meet the band members in person after the show. Their song titles and album covers would easily offend the average Christian to the point of cardiac arrest. But as human beings, the band members are the nicest and friendliest people you could ever meet in the music industry. Below is a youtube video of an old interview with Death frontman Chuck Schuldiner (R.I.P.) which helps futher solidify my point.

Underoath have been considered Christian death metal.

I'd actually never heard of them Eora, just had a listen and quite impressed. Although to my ears they are leaning more towards Hardcore than death but thats only a fine line and my opinion cheers for pointing them out mate, will have to investigate further
