Today we had a missionary from Portland OR in our Sunday School class telling us about life in Portland.

He serves in a predominantly Indian section of the city where people are Hindus. He has had very little success as has his predecessors.

Rents and COL is very high in the city.
My grandparents (on my father's side) used to live there.
Never really gave it much thought.

I live in the buckle of the Bible Belt with 4 main publishing houses of religious literature. (LifeWay, Cokesbury/Abingdon, can't remember COC's name, and Thomas Nelson...)
There might be more... can't remember at the moment.

I have visited countries without religious centers... never thought that it would be America.

Needless to say I am considering a trip out there for mission work.

I tend to do well with the unchurched. I always seem to get an apprentice who needs a guiding light...

Never thought that I would be considering going back for a visit.

But I'll have to make a shopping list before I go...

Pendleton wool shirts, true extra sour sourdough English muffins, Tillamook Cheddar Cheese, good wines (reislings are the bomb up there) and some awesome smoked salmon and gravlax.

Papa Zoom lives up in WA somewhere out there...course I'll be hours away from him.

Anyone else from the Northwest?

awesome - supporting you in prayer

am interested in hearing any testimonies or prayer needs for what you are planning

Technically, the world is a mission field, as there are plenty of people who still have not had the chance to hear the gospel. I wish you well in this endeavor.

BTW, reba lives in the very northeast corner of California. Jefferson County, if I remember correctly.

What amazes me is how many people here in America have never heard the Gospel preached. People are just to afraid to go into the inner cities and places like you said in the OP.

God bless you on your endeavor when you go as being prayed up first is the important part of the beginning of your journey as the Holy Spirit gives you what to speak to these people as their eyes and ears will be opened.
