This is just a thread for general discussion on "kid Bible songs".

To start, I have a question. Years ago in our "youth worship" (Sunday School), there were all sorts of fun songs we sang. As I look back there is one song that confuses me.

Once there was a king
Who had ten thousand men
He marched them up the hill
And then he marched them down again

And when you're up, you're up
And when you're down, you're down
And when you're only half way up,
You're neither up nor down

I'm not certain on the title, but it was often referred to as "Once There Was a King".
I did some Google-searching and found nothing on "Once There Was a King". However, I did find "The Noble Duke of York", and more commonly, "The Grand Old Duke of York".
No big deal- that happens all the time. You visit with another church and some songs are different, maybe in lyric, maybe in hand motions, maybe in the music.
But how is this a "Bible" song? I don't remember anything in the OT books...

I remember this as a nursery song with British roots. I do not believe it is a children's Bible song at all.

Blessings.

It was on a Barney video when my daughter was little. Thanks for bringing back the nightmare!!! :o

I remember hearing it on the Teletubbies. :o

So your daughter liked Barney too, huh? My oldest was obsessed with him. Thankfully that obsession didn't last more than a few years, but the one year, it was Barney AND Teletubbies that she loved. My youngest never really got into any show at all thank goodness.

There once was a man from Perth
Who was born on the day of his birth
He was married, they say, on his wife's wedding day
And died on his last day on earth.

No, that is jsut said by my very good christian friend all the time. A pretty cool rhmye there.

But the only thing i can remember atm is

"rise, and shine, and give god yoru glory glory"

"onezies and twozies twozies, koala bears, giraffes and kangaroozieroozies

Oh, she loved that obnoxious dinosaur! UGH!!

My mother thought it was funny and bought her about fifty Barney videos. She would just grin at me every time she brought over a new one. I would just look at her and wonder when the devil had gotten so imbedded in her! LOL! And then I would watch that video a gabillion times.
