That's a concern with anything, really. Anything can become more important than God to us, anything can become an idol.

Yes it is a concern with anything but anyone today can see the almost total power and influence of Music, musicians and bands in people's lives and philosophies of life.I am almost certain we will never see threads titled closet Christian CEO'S,Dentist and Librarians because nobody cares.....music has far outdistanced most other forms of influence in people's lives, especially young people.
True. Entertainment is king in this culture. You bring up a good point, and something that should be considered. Although if you are saying that this means we should avoid Christian music and bands, I can't agree with you there. This is coming from someone who used to be against Christian rock.

P.S. I did some major editing on my previous post. Please take a look.

No i'm not saying that one should avoid those bands and artist,i don't listen to them because they serve no purpose in my life and the Music itself, minus the lyrics, doesn't do anything for me or move me in any way but have no problems with what they do for others.

Okiedokie. In that case, I don't think many people on here, if any, would really disagree with you.

For me, the lyrics make the song. They are what moves me or not. The music is only a contributor working with the lyrics, made to help set the mood. I do have a style preference, though. Some music just doesn't appeal to me.
When I do listen to instrumental music, it's not for worship, but just because I like it.

Christian rock and metal has it's place. It gets the Lord in the door where he would not be otherwise invited. People are so sensory focused. What they see, what they hear...they'll accept it into the environment and put it on repeat instead of shutting the door on it. Just because they tune the guitars down and wear a little dark makeup.

I walked around for a long thinking Black Sabbath was a Satanist band. I've never been a satanist, but thought the music was great. Slowly, here and there, I'd pick up on phrases that were clearly non satanic and go huh? did he just say that? So yeah, Christian rock certainly has it's place in the world. Ozzy must be some kind of genius to be able to put his message together with the music and visuals that would be accepted by the young crowd.

Yes, I think it's good to be open to alter one's viewpoints if there is profit in an area that one didn't see previously.

Blessings.

Edward: Yes, it's not just female Christian rock singers such as Dawm Michele that pile on the dark mascara! (Not quite sure what to make of the men wearing it...)

Blessings.

I think most times it is just a visual to give them something to look at during the show. I think it was Alice Cooper that started that, who also is now a professed born again Christian.

Edward:

Same with the tattoos and piercings thing, which men and women rock artists both seem to participate in on an equal basis, anyway.

The main thing with a Christian rock band is for the lyrics and message to be clear.

Blessings.

I do have a style preference, though. ..

questdriven:

Yes, we all have our preferred styles.

Christian music exists in various styles, of course.

For you, for example, would Christian hard rock / heavy metal be among various styles that you appreciate kind of equally at different times, or has hard rock really now become established as the style that kind of defines you as a Christian woman?

Blessings.

Seems to have. I like a lot of styles, but I probably listen to hard rock and metal the most. Sometimes I do listen to something else for a while, though.

P.S. Songs like Skillet's Monster are my jam! :)

Yes, I do get that impression and you've confirmed it.

You don't need my advice, but if I were you I would also keep your mind open to other styles, too, like you're evidently doing. As much as anything, you will have memories of having heard many pieces of Christian music, especially hymns.

Maybe you can figure a time, maybe, when you really figured for the first time that Christian hard rock defined you as a woman?

But anyway, I think that Red's Let it Out, is very similar to Skillet's Monster.

Blessings.

I don't know. I'd guess when I found out that I really liked Skillet's style, when I kept listening to the songs over and over.

Do you think that when your mom bought you a Red CD this was when she had realized how committed you were to Christian hard rock?

(Red being very similar to Skillet, I think.)

Blessings.

Not sure. I usually don't listen to it where she can hear it, especially then. She knows I like it, and she knew she wasn't into the style.

She knows you like it, and was willing to promote your appreciation of it, in a sense. Kind of an unspoken encouragement or acknowledgment of you as an adult woman with independent tastes, maybe?

(Perhaps she didn't go into it as far, though.)

Blessings.

When I was a youth and not responsible in the christian faith that I am now growing in. I listened to alot of METAL and it seemed i was always more incline to listen to those whose messages were deep and did hold a taint of some formulae of christian understanding or faith. Metallica, dokken, whitelion, metal church, strypper, baron kross, testament. I was never inclined really to listen to one's that seemed irrelevent, neutral or dissassociated with the faith like ozzy, BS, poison, ted, iron maiden.....sure some of them discussed certain aspects of the christian faith; mostly from the other side, but those that seemed to heavily way upon christianity in their auditorial expressions gained my attention the most.

Quote unquote; "I find your lack of faith disturbing!" could some up my understanding of the process in reference to rock bands. Beside isn't - sex and drugs synonomous with rockandroll? It is hard to seperate the good from the bad, or the unrighteous from the righteous when they do not announce their faith vocally, or share the gospel to one another.

When a righteous and faithfully devout man speaketh he utters things from GOD the heavenly father, when an unrighteous man speaketh he utters things that should not be told. "Doth a righteous man hide his faith, NO, he lets the light within shine and does not conceal it from others, because he has nothing to hide or fear." Sharing the gospel in little or in much is a true act of christian faith.....

“No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light."

Praise be to GOD the heavenly father and his son lord JESUS CHRIST forever>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

testament...

You like Testament, do you? I do. I think they're one of the most underrated bands out there.

I downloaded some Skillet, awesome! I just listened to Shaded Red, Let it Out, it's good too but Skillets got the edge I think. (Where's the head bang smiley?!)

Scrolling back I noticed that where I mentioned 'Let it out', it's really called 'Release the Panic', of course, sorry.

Blessings.

I dont' have time to read every post, but:

Here is my two cents:

Sometimes I watch a TBN station called JCTV. They show music video's of Christian rock bands.

I remember seeing Christian hard metal guitarist who looked just like marilyn manson. Eyes rolled back up in his head so all you could see were the whites of his eyes, and black stuff/make up oozing out underneath his eyes... Honestly... THAT's Christian? In my opinion, no way! It's appearance is of the world- not of Christ.

Metal is NOT Christian, no matter how they may describe themselves.
