Confused by Catholicism

So, I'm not sure how to go about asking for help. For many years I condidered myself a born-again believer. I even taught the bible at various evangelical churches.

Then I spent some time at a Catholic forum debating doctrine. I did my best to try to understand why they believed, because I expected them to sincerely try to understand why I believed, too.

The result was that I became confused. I mean, I can see why they believe what they do, and I'm not sure if they are not good reasons why I should believe, too.

Which is why I'm here. I've previously tested the waters at this forum and found several thoughtful and knowledgable and helpful people. I'd like all of you who have participated in discussions with me before to help me out now.

But I don't want to break any forum rules about not debating Catholicism. I don't know if the fact that I'm seeking counsel and not debate would allow me to get biblical advice, here. I would prefer that, as I think several heads and hearts are better than one. But if that is not allowed, would someone who is willing to answer all my questions (I have many) like to volunteer to help me in the one-on-one forum?

I don't know. Maybe the discussion may start here, and a moderator will keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't turn into a debate? I'm really just wanting to figure this out for myself. I actually don't want to be Catholic, but I do want to follow the truth, wherever He leads me.

Hi dear brother, we do have certain rules concerning debate of Catholicism and they are:
Discussion of Catholic doctrine is limited and will only be allowed in the One on One Debate Forum and End Times forum only. RCC content in the End Times forum should relate to End Times beliefs. Do not start new topics elsewhere or sway existing threads toward a discussion or debate that is may be viewed as ‘Catholic’ in nature.

I am ex-Catholic and would certainly be happy to meet you on the One-on-one debate forum, and can hopefully answer any questions you have. Just let me know and I'll set it up for us. Blessed in Christ Jesus.

Thanks, Eugene. Please do.

:)

I would like to request that anyone who feels led to do so would pray for me and Eugene. Perhaps pray that I would know what questions to ask to know what is true, and that Eugene will be given the wisdom to answer.

I'd be interested in having a second one-on-one, too, if anyone else is interested in helping me.

:)
I'd be interested in a one on one discussion, I'm not a Catholic, but I don't hold as high of a negative view towards them (as you will find many Protestants do). Would be happy to discuss it with you.

I would, in the proper venue, be willing to discuss Catholicism and other Apostolic churches, if you'd like the POV of a Roman Catholic. If so, let me know.

To understand Catholicism, it is good to learn more about early church history as well as the Eastern Orthodox Church which you will find is very similar to Catholicism and actually comes in defense of the catholic church in many cases as to their practices.
