I'm a fan. I have been ever since I read The Cross and The Switch Blade.

The info. on him, his family, his ministries, etc. on the net is conflicting (big surprise there). He seems to have distanced himself from Teen Challenge after a while and moved on to other projects, but I couldn't find anything indicating that he's publicly spoken out against what Teen Challenge had become. I dunno.

While he was alive, he had a blog/devotional site that was fairly awesome. I go there sometimes. I think a family member writes them now.

I'm looking for guidance in my walk, and I think David Wilkerson might be a good person to look to, but...again, the internet is full of Christians tearing down other Christians, so I'm a bit confused.

Any thoughts? Information? Opinions? I appreciate your help. :)

I have met Niki Cruz.
He came to Idaho when I was a teenager and spoke at a conference for Youth.
Thick Thick accent.

Kinda unique guy from what I remember...shorter than what I thought that he would be...and a lot skinnier.

years and years ago.

David Wilkerson had a very big impact on me, early in my life. I read the Cross and the Switchblade not many years after it was published. Probably still a teenager. Don't recall. But more than that were his sermons on living a Christian life. I used to eat that stuff up. He was classic old school holiness. The man undoubtedly heard from God. In the arena of God's judgments, particularly so. But later in his ministry I think he got a bit over the top i.e. his "timing" was off. I wouldn't fault him for it. It's an easy place to over react. Particularly when a ministry is geared to that aspect of our Lord. I think his insight, and that of most old school holiness was just a bit off. Which is why I don't link to old school holiness as much as I did prior. But MOST of the people of God whom I really really respect came from old school holiness and I was trained in the faith by such Pentecostal believers. I still have many believing friends in that circle. And in ministry you'll also see that this particular camp has a very strong presence in the roughest of places.

Not many are aware of it, but Wilkerson heard from God on pending judgments, stood across from (I forget which Wall street institution/building) and called them down and was ready ahead of time because he heard, on a day when the stock market plunged several hundreds points.

Just an amazing man of God, he really was.

Being raised in a Christian home there still came the time when i needed to take care of business myself...
I was reading Cross and the Switchblade... at the part where DW introduces Nicky Cruz and Some how Billy Graham was on the TV introducing Nicky Cruz..... I thought WOW God You care enough about me to slap me up side my head.. with a double dose i best be listening..

I also have admired the life of David Wilkerson. At the time of his death in 2011, I wrote an article for my homepage, The Sudden Death of David Wilkerson.

I don't recall the reasons for his parting ways with Teen Challenge, which I have worked for, but his holistic approach to ministry inspired me to work with the under-privileged and drug addicted.

Nobody is perfect.
A person in the spotlight is open to public scrutiny.
But fewer men in our day and age have done greater things to serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The things that Nikki Cruz has done and what teen challenge has done will make David's crown of glory in heaven shine very bright forever!

David Wilkerson had a blog he kept right before he met that truckin '09 (his wife survived the crash but died a year later from cancer)
It's apocalyptic in nature. Much of it has become true. The fires and riots and national guard haven't happened.

Kinda odd though.

Just saying that a guy who wants to spread a message of God's love has an odd way of getting that message out.
