Could someone tell me what Jesus means when he warned us in the scripture below:
Matthew 24:
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

Could the deception he is referring to be coming from religious organizations who think they are doing right?

Be back later, to answer your post, have something to do right now..
Will have to find scriptures also...

Dan 7:11 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake (The man of sin we now describe as the antichrist; that son of perdition.): I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.
Dan 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. (3 ½ years)

2 Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

2 Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Dear Brother Taniesh, I attempt to keep context as to time also if possible, and one of the things we read in Mat 24:3 pertaining to these things is “When shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?”

Now we hopefully are aware of present deception of men going after filthy lucre and using religion as their means, but I think this goes much deeper as we read in Mat 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

I know there are strange doctrines of man, but in the end times it is going to deceive billions to follow the ultimate deceiver to their own destruction.

As a true Christian, there are , for sure, many false teachers among us and you need be well founded in your Bible to know the truth. For me, the influx of Liberal / Progressive ideas into the church is not "true" Christian and wrong.
In your Matthew verse, I believe it is Jesus, as he is at the Mount of Olives talking to his disciples and he is talking to them about the end times when the "Anti-Christ" will be preaching and falsely claiming to be the resurrected Jesus. Many will fall prey to the Anti-Christ, including many of the so called Christians, the Liberal /Progressives!

this answer, is a few things.

First, specifically , there is an actual DAY that God is coming back to earth to restore order and cease the chaos.
This is the 2nd "coming" of Jesus.
He will literally come here, and control everything.
He will rule, and Christians will be a part of his rulership.

Now, To your exact question...

"many in my name saying i am Christ"....be not deceived.

This is .,.... Jesus speaking prophetically from His day till the Anti-Christ actually shows up to pretend He is the messiah, there will be found in History many that have proclaimed themselves as the "messiah".
In Israel currently, there is a "messiah" a religious leader, who many Jews there, follow.
His picture is often found on City Buses.
Im not kidding.
This has happened many times in the last 2000 years, that someone comes along...."im the Christ" "messiah"., ect.

There is also the fact that there are religious teachings (doctrines), and indeed denominations that say that "their church" or "their particular doctrine of Christ" is the REAL ONE, and in fact, its that very LIE< that deceives their followers.
For example, Mormons, or Jehovah's Witness.
But they are not the only 2....as any "church" that says that it alone is the body of Christ and that you must joint IT, is also the answer to your question.

Thank you all for your input and now I have one more question. What if the deception is coming from church leaders who stand in the stead of Christ claiming to know the word of God yet they are using that position to gain self acknowledgement as being some kind of leader. I have come to know that it is The Holy Spirit that teaches and guides us to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of God. I understand testifying to people however when it gets to the point a person has to tell the preacher their testimony before they are allowed to speak it in front of the congregation. (1Thessalonians 5:19 Quench not the Spirit.)
There are so many denominations out there and so many claims yet not one has proven to be the one true church and frankly unless they are a part of The Way then they are false, man made, and deceiving others. (2 Peter 2 )

Jesus was very specific here when he said..

5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

and i don't think he was talking about some guy in the National Enquirer.. He's talking about someone claiming to be Christ on earth..

OK sure...it's true.
But the question becomes one of "What standards are you using to determine whether a church is ungodly or not?"

Error in theology and actions are going to exist in EVERY church. There isn't going to be a perfect church here on earth.

So....
This being said are you certain that you have perfect theology?
Do you have perfect actions?

So either you are Jesus or you are imperfect.
And even Jesus hung out at Church every week.

Jesus was very specific here when he said..

Here is the scripture that you are referring to turnorburn could it be that many are confusing Matthew 24:4 and 5 with Matthew 24
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elects.

And JohnDB the standards I am using is scripture and being taught by The Holy Spirit and Jesus did not hang at church every week and if you have read the Bible you would have seen that he called those in that kind of churches hypocrites and it was them who wanted to crucify him. It is known in history that church organizations have caused the death of many innocent people and it will until the end. Besides we are warned of deceivers and how they will deceive along with what to do to find out whether or not they are of God so I have made sure to do as such.

Luke 4:16 disagrees with your statement about where Jesus spent his Saturdays.

So....
I'm wondering if you think that you are too holy to go to church?
Wouldn't you think that Christians, who are attracted to holiness because of the Holy Spirit's leaning, would flock to you if that were really true?

One of the most important aspects of being a part of the Ecclesia is love....and the only one you can love in a closet is yourself.

Jesus is warning of false messiahs which would be coming prior to the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70.

Could you be more specific about the organizations that have been killing Gods people?

"It is known in history that church organizations have caused the death of many innocent people."

Many people are confused that's true but in this verse Jesus said they will claim to be Christ on earth and many will believe it.. How many churches have you been to where the Pastor makes such a claim?

Slow down in your thinking here and listen to what I am saying. I am merely offering things to consider on and think about then it is up to each person to ask The Holy Spirit to verify what I am saying. Those who come in the name of Jesus are those who feel as though they have the right to stand and proclaim their understanding of scripture and place them in front of people as though the only way to get to Jesus is to go to their church. To answer what church organizations, in history, killed innocent people is shown in The Foxes Book of Martyrs, catholic history, and all the way back to the synagogue in Jerusalem. Also think about what God said about the Laodicean church in
Revelation 3
14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

There are many scripture that refer to how to know a wolf in sheep's clothing and that are those who think they are doing right but actually are not.
1TIMOTHY 4
1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devi
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

All I am saying ask The Holy Spirit to teach and guide you because He is the only one who will tell you everything you need to know and reveal things to you about The Kingdom of God that will amaze you. Man is fallible but The Holy Spirit is infallible, when man speaks it is mixed up with his own feelings and personal interpretations but when God speaks it is straight forward and life enriching growth in ones spirit and soul. I don't what anyone to take what I say as though it is right until they prove what I say and ask The Holy Spirit if I am right about it and to verify that to anyone who seeks truth. So look to Christ to be the perfect example for your life because if you look at me and my mistakes or errors and anyone else especially in leader positions as an example you are going to be sadly let down. It is Christ that came to be the example of how to live and if we love him we will strive to follow him but to put faith on men without proving they are from God is worse than playing with fire. Thank you all for your input either pro or con it has been greatly appreciated because either way truth can work its way straight to a heart who is sincere in seeking the truth.

Are you going to address what others have said and asked of you or just believe what you want to believe?

I believe what I believe and there is nothing that will persuade me otherwise. To address others concerns is this: how do you know your right and the church you attend is right? How does anyone navigate in this world that has so many different religions and denominational beliefs to find the truth? A lot of what I have heard in these post is personal opinions which has been planted by church leaders or a personal opinion. As I stated before, I only posed these question to help others see deception could come from modern day church leaders. I mean it gets pretty bad when God wants to spew something out of His mouth as He will with the church of Laodiceans.

This is a highly problematic answer as it not only is dangerous, it is unbiblical. You are also being hypocritical because you are doing the very same thing you accuse others of doing. Not to mention the spiritual pride in your first sentence.

That is the trap of believing all we need is the Holy Spirit to guide and teach us. There have been several on these forums before you who made that claim, and yet they could not agree with each other. That alone proves that claim to be problematic.

The Holy Spirit is my guide and teacher and I will stand on that till the day I leave this world. I know you have not had time to read and think about what I said before you posted a remark so all I have to say is I only say what I am told by The Holy Spirit to say and if you have a problem with what was said then I suggest you talk to God about it and ask Him.
