Now there are some who understand what the temple ofGod is.But then there are some, even on this board who believe the temple of God was a man made building in Jerusalem.
The temple in Jerusalem WAS the temple of God until the Roman general Titus tore it down in 70 AD.
God used him to tear it down because it was no longer necessary.
God built a new temple.
At Pentecost, God had made those who believe in Christ, who had received the Holy Spirit, His new temple.

1Co 3:16-17 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you. If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.

1Co 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

I think most people on this board already knew that.

Yes, the spiritual and emotional tie the Jews had to that "building" was something that most of us will never fathom. They actually DID believe God lived inside those walls.

I was under the impression most people knew those verses were written many years before the physical temple that no longer housed God's presence was actually destroyed.

You make a good point. Those verses were written probably at least 15 years before the Temple was destroyed. But, they didn't have the speed of TV back then, and it took decades for this new "Way" to make it around the known world. I think what we are reading there is simply an understanding that the Christians were beginning to think about, and accept into their lives. The Jews were still going strong at that time, ignoring the multiple chances God kept giving them during the generation between Jesus' crucifixion and the eventual destruction of the Temple.

This saved jew can.cause I read what jews say and the sages at times.

The temple was a physical representation of the Heavens and God was in the center of it

They spoke to God in the center place of the temple

You caught me there. I don't think I've ever looked up to see when Corinthians was written. I just figured it had to be bundled in with the rest of what he had to say. We know the event that was the proof behind the text was Pentecost though, that puts it 40 years before the temple destruction.

Totally hear you there.

I kinda like how you say that. I always took all this type of stuff as a sort of our version of Leviticus. Just that if there was any confusion on what happened with God pouring out His Spirit and the change from a physical built temple location to the person, an apostle just spoke so there can be no more of that type of confusion.

The Jews were still going strong, ignoring the multiple chances God kept giving them during the generation between Jesus' crucifixion and the eventual destruction of the Temple.
I couldn't imagine the heart-break. And then to do it all again in another 50 years and just about have every last Jew executed, I believe God himself influenced Hadrian's decision to have them all dispersed rather than general genocide after losing so many men and just the general troublesome-ness of those people seemed to give that empire.

In the general theme of things, all I'm trying to say is that the workings and decrees of God had made the physical temple obsolete long before it was actually torn down. Not saying anyone that didn't get the info and died was held liable or anything like that.

Would have hit the like on that post of yours if the button existed here.

There is so much of those times that I find myself still missing because I sometimes forget to "put on my sandals" when I make snap judgments about what went on back then. One big one is that I keep forgetting that not a one of them owned a copy of the Bible that we take for granted today. We assume certain things were simply "known" back then because we "moderns" have had a history to read about for a couple of thousand years. They had almost none of that. They were just living, day-by-day through the times we get to read about. We read of things that, because of distances and relative isolation, some of those people lived entire lives, then died,.... without ever even knowing about things that happened somewhere else in their country.

BTW, a big LIKE for your Post # 8.

I don't think that is accurate.
Notice what Steven said when he was charged with blasphemy (Acts 7)
Act 7:47-50
But Solomon built Him a house.
However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says:

"Heaven is My throne,
And earth
is My footstool.
What house will you build for Me? says the LORD,
Or what is the place of My rest?

Has My hand not made all these things?"

It was stated before the destruction by Jesus, probably around 30AD. The destruction of the temple was in 70AD.
It is likely that Matthew wrote his Gospel after the destruction of the Temple but it could possibly have been written as early as 50AD.

I don't know. The ones you originally gave were from Corinthians though and those were written before 70. I think scripture release dates are secondary to when God actually speaks and acts. Basically meaning what I said to Willy, Pentecost happened, the proof of the change in temple was there whether it was written down at the time or not.

We who understand the scriptures, know that there was, and will be again, a temple building in Jerusalem.

There is also, the spiritual temple that is the Church.

Understanding and rightly dividing the scriptures, is the key to understanding which temple is being referred to in the Bible.

Totally agree, ''born again'' Christians are the temples of God but The Jews for the main part don't get it ... Yet .. I wonder if some don't put the same onus on their church buildings and works as the Jews .. Whether or not the Temple gets built they sure are planning on and in preparation for it ..

They even teach is an abomination that causes desolation to tear a man made building down.

Some people just dont know what the temple of God is.
I read the John verse as exactly what happened after Emmanuel's crucifixion. He was the temple of God. A flesh and blood son of a man who was also God walking among his people. That temple was destroyed as people imagined crucifixion destroyed the life in the body. And then it was raised again after three days in the tomb. And God walked among his people again for 40 days embodying the good news that death was not the end for those who are within the anointed body of Cristos.
