The reason that I'm asking this question is that I was reading my Message Bible (I try to read a little bit each night now since it is my mission to get to know the Lord more and have a better relationship with Him) and I found this quote that made it sound like Jesus was sort of disowning and ( I'm not really certain about this part because I'm really not sure that He would do that but) shading (not counting James) His little brothers and sisters. It's found in the book of Mark chapter three verses thirty-one through thirty five.

"Just then His mother and brothers showed up. Standing outside, they relayed a message that they wanted to have a word with Him. He was surrounded by the crowd when He was given the message. Your mother and brothers and sisters are looking for you. Jesus responded; Who do you think are my mother and brothers? Looking around, taking in everyone seated around Him, He said right here, right in front of you- my mother and more brothers. Obedience is thicker than blood. The person who obeys God's will is my brother, sister, and mother."

Now obviously Jesus meant that all of us Christians are a part of God's family. But was His answer supposed to have a double meaning? His mother Mary shouldn't have lost her faith due to the fact the angel came to her and she gave birth to Him in the first place. But what about the rest of His siblings? Regardless of the fact whether they did or not, I'm sure that He loved them anyway just like He loves everyone else in the world.

Matthew 12:46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. 47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. 48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? 49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

Even though Jesus had an earthly mother who birthed Him, brothers and sisters I don't think they knew He was Messiah come, but as the disciples knew Jesus as being a Prophet sent by God for the things He did and said I would also believe His mother, sisters and brothers would think the same way. It would have only been when He was raised from the dead they would know Him as Messiah come. The brethren, mother, brothers and sisters Jesus was speaking of was all who do the will of the Father as we are brothers and sisters to Christ and sons and daughters to God.
