Dig Supports Biblical Account of King Solomon's Construction

(IsraelNN.com) Even as Muslim spokesmen try to deny Jewish claims to the Holy Land, archaeological discoveries have recently been coming in fast and furious proving the veracity of the Biblical account of history.

Hebrew University archaeologists have revealed an ancient path in Jerusalem believed to date back to the time of King Solomon, along with structures including a gateway and the foundation of a building. Dr. Eilat Mazar, the leader of the archaeological dig, said the findings match finds from the time of the First Temple.

Thanks for pointing this out. Eilat Mazar, cousin of Israeli archaeologist Amihai Mazar, has been excavating in Jerusalem for a while now. In 2005 she said she uncovered David's palace but other scholars disagreed with her as to what the structure was. I think her finds will be more accepted once she publishes a report of her excavations and allows it to be reviewed. This road-way though is a new development and I will definitely watch all this with interest. Biblical Archaeology Review magazine has defended her finds before so she certainly has some clout in the field.

It seems this was known previously but is being reannounced pending a preparation for opening to the public (or something to that effect) - though some LMLK ("to/for the king") seals have been found which were not previously known. Still it just sounds like the publications are pending and then what has actually been found will become clear.
