There are so many ways to look at what religion is. Church life holds fellowship, faith, worship, theology, teaching, encouraging, helping, bible studies, and probably some more I'm missing out. Christian life outside of the church includes much of that same stuff but also everything else we come in contact with. Work, politics, family, life stuggles and joys, secret sins and public ones, and struggles to stay pure in an impure world. And again probably so much more.

In my opinion religion is both inside the Christian body and the church fellowship, as well as outside among the rest of the world. If it's not a way of life (or a heavy element in life) then I think religion is missing the mark.

Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and Love, are my three votes that religion should include. Because no matter whether we are in a church activity or out in the world those three things should be constant.

Perhaps so Sister. There's Christianity, and there's knowing Jesus and walking with him like a friend.
Well, let's start with what religion is:

Definition of religion
  1. 1a : the state of a religious a nun in her 20th year of religionb (1) : the service and worship of God or the supernatural (2) : commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance
  2. 2: a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices
  3. 3archaic : scrupulous conformity : conscientiousness
  4. 4: a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith
By reading the above, it would seem that Chrisitanity IS a religion.
But we Christans do object to being part of a religion.
Why?

Because in very religion, man makes an effort to reach God.
Mostly by following a set of rules and regulations.
They know about God but don't seem to have a personal relationship with Him.

In Christianity, it's God who looks for us, calls us, we respond.
And God is found in this way. It seems to be a superior way.
We follow those to whom God revealed Himself, the Jews.
So, it becomes a personal relationship because HE invites and WE accept.

So what beliefs do we have?
Maybe only the first two?

You ask Good questions Sister! As they say over here...the Bible belt is 1000 miles wide and 1" deep. This holds so much truth that it's...profound. The worst thing is the ones who deceive themselves into believing that they reject religion, but then continue to accept parts of it without realizing it.

Jesus the Christ goes so much more deeper than that one inch, that...wow. There will be much embarrassment in that day of the Lord. :sad
In order to climb out of a religious box, one must ask for Jesus's help 100 times per day! If you always ask His help, He will not forsake you and He will help you, and you will not be deceived!!!!!!! How many of us, ask for the Lords help in day to day activities?

Most of us are lucky if we ask in morning prayer to be with us that day. One time a day, that's it. When I leave to drive somewhere for an errand or wot-not, I verbally ask if Jesus would like to ride with me. Do you do that? :yes

You can climb out of the religious box. Yes you have to climb. I do not think I am totally out of it yet. But I am standing up and reaching up.
His presence IS with us always. Don't forget about Him and start doing things on your own accord.
A 30 second prayer each morning, two hours in church each Sunday? Come on...Stand up! I speak to all of my Brothers and Sisters here...:pray

Jas 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
Jas 1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
Jas 1:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
Jas 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
Jas 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
Jas 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Wake up grumpy today, Sister? I'm sorry to hear that. May the Lord put that upon me and take it from you, just to easy your heart and spirit. I know that's aimed at me. It is a good scripture. But I'm sorry Sister, your suggestion and implication is a waste of your valuable time. Because when the Spirit of the Lord is upon you...well, religious deceptions are easy to recognize. Have a wonderfully blessed day in our Lord and peace be with you. People care about you.

Reba,
I'm finding something new in Christianity which I did not know existed.
Some believe that all one has to do is accept Jesus. Walk down that Church aisle ONE TIME, and he is saved forever.

NOTHING ELSE is required. Faith only.
So many movements these days.
Maybe just plain ole' Christianity isn't enough??
Word of Faith.
HyperGrace.
Faith Only.

So your post was very much appreciated by me!

Hey Edward,
What's with the emoticon?
Do you think you're Reba or something???
I think that one is reserved for our dear sister in Christ.
She must need it sometimes!!

:hysterical I know. Idk, it struck me kinda deep what she said because I knew it wasn't true. I've been falsely accused in life before and I hate it when it happens. Especially about a good Sister.
