True. If I am being a hinderence, then I can leave.
May I kindly remind you that you wanted to be positive? Assuming you could be a hinderance is not quite positive.
I'm like that too, I always assume people don't want me around and I get on their nerves and so on, but that's bull dung.

One positive attitude you could train yourself to keep is to assume that you are welcome where you are and people in general are okay having your around, and if they are not it's their job to let you know, not your job to search for signs of dislike.

Sorry if I come across as lecturing you, that's not my intention, but fighting the false assumption that I don't fit in anywhere and people don't want me is exactly my battle at the moment, so that's what came to my mind when reading your words.

Claudya I will assume you guys want me around here. I won't leave. And about Joel Osteen picture: do I need to change it, or is it okay for me to leave up? I want to leave it up for MY inspiration only. Not for anyone else's UNLESS they need it and like him. No debate here. Just a simple question.

The mods will tell you if they want you to change it. If they don't then it's probably not against the forum rules.
Anyway, it seems Osteen is quite a controversial person, and other people may bring up a new debate about him in the future. You must decide whether you feel up to that.

So, here's what I learned from you guys:

-Debating is a part of the forum process.
-I am never to assume that I am a hinderance to anyone here.
-be positive.

:rolleyes Lol - that is NOT what I said. And yes, there are some aspects of debate, even passionate debate, that I do enjoy. Where else may I examine my position under such scrutiny?

You are free to stay if you like. I don't have any idea how to respond to your initial request that I give serious consideration to the posts that I do or do not "like". The suggestion that we make a list of things that may or may not be discussed has been answered by Eora, in post # 15 here.

Okay, okay Sparrowhawke. I am sorry I said that. Do just was curious about this. I feel it has all been cleared up.

I am staying because I want to be productive on the forums. And I have learned that no one said that they want me to leave. I am learning that I am not to assume things.

this is a debate forum. you are going to run into that. just pick your fights.
Every forum is NOT a debate forum! So we need to get rid of this mentality right now.
We need to respect where others are at in their spiritual walk. Not every member is battle worn, nor should they be required to be.

When we turn our forum as a whole into a "Debate forum", then we've created an environment where pride can take root and we become callous to the needs of others.

We are trying to change that perception... and we shall.

If anyone wants to debate, take it to the proper debate forums where debate is expected. Otherwise keep your nose out of the areas where people are just trying to have good clean conversaitons.

And no Jason, that' isn't just directed at you. It's directed at everyone who thinks this whole site is a safe haven to say whatever they want wherever they want.

StoveBolts that's all I was doing. I was saying I like yes, Joel Osteen and people were trying to steer me away because he doesn't preach the devil, and certain doctrines. But I hope that that sore subject is behind us. Can it please be, StoveBolts?

Dana,
I'm just going to be right up front with you and everyone else in this thread.

ChristianForums.net aspires to provide a place where Christians can come together in fellowship for encouragement, inspiration, and strength to help build each other up and grow in our walk of faith through honest and open discussion, study, reflection, and prayer.
I don't think that was your experience was it? I just finished reading that thread and I don't see how that could have been inspiring or uplifting. let alone strengthening you. If I can be completely honest, I'm ashamed.

There are a lot of things I don't like about Joel, but that doesn't give me the right to debate these issue with you and brow beat you with my issues and force you into submission or run you off because you don't see the things I see. What is my responsibility is to gently guide you into the deeper truths of the Gospel and the way we should be doing that (IMHO) is to affirm what Joel is doing right, and what he is doing in accordance with our Lord and build from there.

I'm reminded of Apollos when Priscilla and Aquilla stumbled across him. The text says, "When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately." This can be found in Acts 18.

None of us are perfect and we all make mistakes. I hope you can look past the negative comments and hold onto the good. I'm sorry that which initially brought you so much joy was met with so much contention.

Grace and Peace.

No, it was not my experience I intended to have with these members. I wanted to share something fun in my life, and it got blown out of proportion.

I see where you are coming from. And let me say, I try to explain what I think you are saying after I read what you say. Anyway: you are saying is that you can't bully me, which brow beat means into liking someone else. You are letting me like who I like, and I do the same for you. And that you are ashamed that I got treated this way.

End of discussion, please and I am leaving. Please mods/staff I am going to want you to get rid of my account. I will not be back at all. Good bye for good.

There are ways. More than one way, but ALL of His ways are higher than ours. Pardon me for the moment that it takes to understand that I'm also "not picking on anybody here," --> well, at least not on any one more than any other.

But when we speak of "battle ready" and/or "battle worn" my thoughts turn to the Book of Judges and an almost hidden principle that may be found there.

Stovebolts has rightly said, "turn[ing] our forum as a whole into a "Debate forum" ... creates an environment where pride can take root..."

Yet there is a higher "way" that needs be understood:
Now these [are] the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, [even] as many [of Israel] as had not known all the wars of Canaan; Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof;
[Jdg 3:1-2 KJV]

We may test our "iron" one against another in play when both agree but it must be done in love.
View attachment 3766

Real battles are to be reserved for the ones that remain (Principalities and Powers in High Places for we do not fight against flesh and blood) and we are to understand that they do indeed remain for reason:

And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD...
[Jdg 3:4]

So we are continued in such things as battles to prove ourselves --> that we LISTEN to the commandments of the Lord. None need me to remind them of the Two Greatest Commandments demonstrated by The Christ, our commander: Jesus.

Fight the good fight.

I like debating. Can we start a good, civilized debate?

About what? In these forums no debate is civilized. I in my opinion would not open the discussion up again because it will get out of hand. And we have said all we need to about this subject.
