cubedbee,

You need to research more on this topic.

You obviously are not a mountain man!

The Arctic area is the only unexplored region left in the United States. There are peaks that have never been climbed, valleys that have never been seen, and rivers that have never been navigated in this region of the world.

Once your oil buddys slide into the area there will be inevitable oil spills, roads, pollution in the form of acid rain, habitat destruction of species and the degredation of the spirit of the land.

You and berean are happy in your comfortable lives of plastic toys and materialistic pollution. You dont mind seeing the spirit of the wild raped and pillaged for a few extra months of oil for your fat american SUV clubs.

I pity your souls because you do not understand the true meaning of the "Spirit" and the creative abilities of God.

Your views indicate your true genetic form as a virus that overpopulates, spreads disease and death, and exploites the land until you move to another area to do the same thing.

It is disgusting and appals me greatly. You will never know the true "freedom of the hills" with your rotten views.

we betray the last bit of goodness left on this continent that has not been raped by materialistic goals and greedy businessman.

Speak for yourself, the farmers out here don't have any problem growing crops from year to year. Maybe you take that attitude because you live in a city where all you see are buildings. I would think in Nebraska there has to be some good land, maybe you are just exagerrating!!?

Out here they been drilling natural gas wells and its benefitted a lot of farmers. Its all mined from underground so it doesn't to harm the land.

sooner

Sooner or later somebody is going to have to drill in the Alaska refuge for oil. It may as well be the US.

According to who?

I hope the human race gets exterminated for that kind of attitude.....

Oh yha thats right....

it will.

I was glad they approved the drilling. Mainly for the reason that it helps acheive a little independence from greedy OPEC. My hope is that we will put a major thrust in working out a better, cleaner fuel. I do not want to depend on another nation for resources. That dependency is a great weakness that can be taken advantage of at most anytime. We should have already obtained a fuel. We're just not placing enough emphasis and funding to do so.

I agree. We need to move as quickly as possible to develop all our energy resources and make ourselves as strong in the area of fuel independence as we can.

The thing that we need to understand is that this is frozen tundra, not vast fields of pine trees with black bear.

The area that will be affected by drilling is less than 1%, if I remember correctly.

The conservationists are always against these things. They want to stop the giant wind mills that produce electricity because those same wind mills will sometimes kill bats and birds.

Nobody wants to destroy mountains and rolling hills filled with wildlife. Where would I go to live when I go off the deep edge? We need to weigh the cost verses the return.

You all do understand that it will take most liekly 5-10 YEARS before we see a drop of that oil?

You all do realize that it probably will not affect the need for oil, becaus ein 5 years, the amount of oil we need will go up more than we can produce there.

We could spend all that money, and all thoise 5 years, developing ethanol, or other fuel efficient technologies that would totally cut us off from the use of opec oil.

Also think, china hs been guzzling at an enormous rate, and contiunally growing. Do any of you see a sudden decreese in chineese people? It doesnt work that way..

Oil= bad
REsearch for better technology=good.

the oil is just another way for gov't to control another buisness COUGH haliburtun COUGH powell, COUGH the bush companies, COUGH chenney.. COUGH republican party economics.

How about:

COUGH Oxidental, COUGH Gore- Naval Oil Reserves sale, COUGH Clinton Chinnese missile technology transfer, COUGH Reno Waco, COUGH Berger - I don't know how those documents got in my pants. etc.... etc... etc...

Biggest corpution in the White House ever.

When we have the assumption that the "enlightened ones" of this world are those that profess to be disciples of Christ yet make statements such as these in public......

We can conclude that the existentialist agenda is valid and the only option for the individual seeker is......

SUICIDE.

We can't be anti energy like some people are. We need to weigh the pros and cons of it in light of the facts.

Personally, I don't believe that there is any intention of this drilling that far north in Alaska, but the idea is more of a leverage move to get some things in motion, like building more refineries, or at a minimum, rebuild the ones we have, but concervationalists are against both.

It would be nice if this drilling talk put a scare into those who monopolize oil in the mid east, to let them know that we could have other options (wink, wink).

I think the whole purpose of Alaska is so that we have reserve source. How soon will we need it?! Who knows?!

Personally, if they started drilling on a large scale I'd have a strong suspicion that the government knows something is going down in the near future.

;-) :-D :biggrin
I was going to share similar sentiments but you nailed it.

I was a sub for Progress energy a year ago and was talking with one of their employees. This country IS heading towards an energy crisis and he had said the same thing about reactors not being built. It's all the red tape, safety and environmental rules, guidelines etc. that jack the price up so much that they can't afford to build any more. Those brown and black outs in California and NY last year scare me. The population and development have grown considerably in 25 years and it's definitely starting to tax our resources.
I had an idea though as I was dwelling on all of this. What seems to make the most sense IMHO is to have some kind of Energy unit(s) at the residence. Say they 'perfect' the hydrogen fuel source. I envision a unit like those green transformer units you see in people's yards and it supplies the house. Maybe even have it partially buried. No need for power lines, each residence has it's own unit. Though I'm not sure how multi tenant residences would work. Maybe one 'big' unit and they have a metered system? anyway, I thought that would be neat. There's probably a lot of logistical details I'm missing that are potential problems, but on the surface it seems to make sense.

We need to become as energy independent as we can. Every avenue should be explored and tapped.

Alaska is oil rich and will go a long way in helping us in that area.

I am convinced that there are ton's of alternate evergy sources too.

Every energy avenue should be sought after.
