Do you support the Minuteman Project, a group of civilian volunteers who monitor the movement of illegals on the Texas and Arizona borders and report them to the Border Patrol?

I voted not sure because I am not so sure how effective that would be. I mean if the volunteers have no means of stopping the people other than calling border control, it may just be a waste of time. By the time the border control gets there, the illegals may be gone, and if they volunteers have no power to do anything, they may be putting themselves in a dangerous situation. However, if they were given the power to do something like capture or somehow stop the illegals then it may be worthwhile.

Some of these people trying to get here receive less then enough money in what little work they can find to even feed their children. Interesting take on this. I understand what you are saying, and I don't necessarily disagree completely. But, if we allowed everyone who wanted into America to enter, there are a few ramifications. First off, we would also be allowing those in who are here to cause trouble, ie terrorists. Second, if we allowed everybody in, the sheer numbers would be enough to drag our economy down, making us no better than whatever counrty(wow, that sounds all high and mighty of me, but I don't intend it that way) they came from, if not worse.

I'm not really sure, but voted yes. As I don't think they're doing any wrong or harm. They've already stopped their patrols as their goal of showing everyone how sloppy our border security is has been accomplished. With that point, I don't think anyone can fault them. I was also quite concerned with the "big brother knows best" official government border patrol comments regarding them.

I agreee with peaceforall that it would be "cool" if we lived in a borderless world where people could travel without passports and go anywhere they liked. I find it an infringement on our freedoms to have governments check and approve or disapprove of where we are going, why we are going there, how long we will be there, etc, and even tell us we can not live in certain places. However, with society the way it is now, this is just the way it is. I agree that a lot of people come here just wanting to make a better life for themselves. As long as we have the resources and space, then I feel these people should be welcomed, but if they are potential terrorists, have epidemic types of diseases, are coming just to freeload off a generous welfare/medical system, come with the intention of changing our political system, or plan on living a life of crime, then these people should not be allowed in. There lies the problem, how do we determine which is which without going through some sort of screening? We are no longer living in the Pioneer days of free travel so we have to adapt to today's society which requires some degree of border control. Nevertheless, we can all look forward to when we get to heaven and there will be no border controls there for anyone who makes it in!!!

Namely because there are some that are opressed and looking for better lives. Then, there are those who would seek to use our system, and in fact, live off it.

I have a friend in the border patrol who tells me one time they caught an illegal who was repeating sneaking across and always got caught. He asked the guy, "Why try and sneak in? You know I'm just going to catch you."

The fellow replies, "Free money"

Well, rest assured, I'm told now that something was instated where they aren't allowed to catch illegals crossing the border anymore (Border patrol).

Maybe I should have voted yes, because rather than sneaking in, perhaps find an honest way? If such a way is possible for them.

Well than you can pay for their hospital bills and prison stays. As illegals they pay no income tax.

4-14 heads to Texas, New Mexico; supports border patrol

FORT BLISS, Texas –The Soldiers of Troop A, 4th Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, known as the Assassins, did not endure another long cold winter in Fairbanks this year. They were busy training and executing their reconnaissance skills.

For two months they, along with the other troops of 4th Sqdn., 14th Cav. and supporting elements of the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, screened the international border of the U.S. and Mexico in New Mexico. This mission was done in support to Joint Task Force North and to help reduce the illegal entry of transnational threats and drugs into the U.S.

This was a mission of many firsts for Assassin Troop, 4-14 Cavalry and JTF-N. This was the first time 4-14 deployed and conducted a mission with all of its subunits since it was activated in November 2003.

This was also the first time JTF-N hosted an element of this size – roughly 500 Soldiers – and the first time that Strykers and their digital equipment had been used.

The results were dramatic; 4-14 Cavalry’s assistance to the U.S. Border Patrol led to the USBP seizing more than 4,000 pounds of illegal drugs and the apprehension of more than 2,000 illegal aliens. The effects of their mission were felt around the United States as this popular entry point was virtually shut down during the unit’s stay.

The mission provided Troop A and the rest of 4-14 with a valuable training event that tested the skills of the Soldiers and their application of the advanced digital equipment they were recently issued.

The reports from the Soldiers indicate the Stryker is an excellent platform for reconnaissance and the digital network that links them together and greatly enhances the command and control of the unit.

This opportunity to work with JTF-N was the perfect initial mission for the unit. They were able to exercise their newly-developed systems, validate their training and provide an invaluable contribution to the defense of our nation’s borders.

''They're taking credit for securing the border, and surely no one with any credibility believes that," said Michael Nicley, chief of the US Border Patrol's Tucson sector, which encompasses most of the Arizona border.

But Nicley and others attributed the drop to US agents and the increased presence of Mexican police and members of Grupo Beta, a Mexican government-sponsored organization that tries to discourage people from crossing illegally and aids those stranded in the desert. We need more people like that around here. I live in Texas, God help us. The illegals come over to our cities and break the law every day. At least 50%-60% of the arrests at my police dept are illegals who don't give a rip about our laws. They drive without drivers licenses or insurance and hit law-abiding citizens. These are the people who are driving our insurance rates into the rafters. They are drunk drivers, they live as drunks, they don't care what impact they have on anyone else. I see people come into the station filing reports of being hit by these people. One lady had the nerve to follow the hit-and-run illegal so she could get the data to report them. Yes, I was indeed happy to file that report. (I knew the detective would be able to nail it).
All they do is break the law, serve the time, then go back out and break the law again. Yep, I see the repeat offenders come in again and again; drunk as skunks, serve time, (they're day-laborers, mind you, so they don't have to worry about losing their job....) then back to the day job, get plastered, go out on the road, rob the local market, or do DWI, or sell drugs, family violence, get caught, do time, and the cycle starts again. They never have a license, never have their own home. They live in apartments with many other family illegals and remain untraceable because they are always in someone elses residence. Last week I had at least a few inmates give me the same addresses. This is a way of life for them.

I think the proponents of these illegals should live where we do so they can get a nice dose of the infringement and the violation of those who think that our society is here simply to tolerate their abuse.
