Alright so imagine this, you drop a chocolate chip cookie on the floor. Uh oh! But it barely touched the ground. It's still alright to eat then isn't it? Or is it? I have to be honest with you, I'm not really all that concerned about germs. I shower every other day (when it isn't that time of the month for me) or every couple of days and I don't wash my hands before every meal like I should. So around my house, the five second rule actually applies. But I'm just curious, how true is it? Is it really safe to eat something off the floor even if it's only been there for seconds?

I don't know the answer April but I always throw it to the birds if it's fallen on the floor :lol

MYTHBUSTERS: no experimental support for a bacterialogical "grace period". Food dropped for less than 5 seconds is just as contaminated as dropped for longer than 5 seconds.

Status: BUSTED
