Until we can fix the usability problems, will it even work? How many people will join and stay (much less donate lots of money) when, as you pointed out in the other thread, the whole forum is almost unusable so many times? It's sounding like it's going to take a lot more than just a few more donations to fix the problem.

Ummmmm
The usability issues are not all on the site.

Most people use cable modems... Which the bandwidth is going through one tier one corporation's network. (There are only 3 tier one corporations with networks and switches)
Other companies may have network fiber but no switches...they are just really expensive pieces of equipment that are expensive to house.

Well to the point.
All of the switches have deteriorated over time and had new pieces integrated into them. And the tier one that most of your cable network users use is having issues at the switches... Compatibility issues. They had the whole NE network crash and be out for two days about 12 days ago. Now some of the traffic was re-routed through another network's switches...but it wasn't treated the same as their own. Plus some traffic is getting re-routed through overworked switches that are on stand by as backups.

So....

In the SE one of the major switches got flooded a few years back...so did many cell towers. But since they worked when turned on they didn't replace them... But now the corrosion is catching up with the electronics.

So....
Hang in there....
Things will eventually get better... Just not for a while.

So all this somehow only affects our forum? I don't have these problems on any other internet site I go to.

This site is slow because of a slow server and database issues.

It is hosted in a data centre in Texas, which has high speed internet, like most data centres.

Well that doesn't help the situation either.
But what I am talking about is the connection into the LD network that it uses.

Still waiting for a reply from my friend..
Could you be more specific about your idea? We may be talking with him soon, and of course he'll be very interested in ways to increase contributions.

Yes, as Mike said, we'll be speaking with Greg soon, so hopefully we can move forward with some solutions in the near future.

And I think Eora means solutions to the site speed you are always having issues with.

That's your idea? You talk to a friend, we chat with the owner, and then we go from there. :chin Wait a minute... Yeah! There is NO WAY this will fail! It's so simple, yet brilliant!! We'll do that, and then we'll go from there! :thumbsup

Just havin' fun with ya. :lol
