Ebola is lethal. It devastates.

Incubation time of 2 to 21 days? Sounds like it could actually travel globally, a possibility mentioned in the article. After all, it's not contained in rural areas only these days.

May our Lord bless & keep us all healthy!

It would turn into an epidemic in no time if it arrived to the US. Direct international flights arrive in major cities. If the fatality rate were to reach even the minimum of 50%, think of the huge numbers of dead. (Yes... like Philly in 1918!)

Yes people were dying in the street here, and nobody wanted to touch the bodies, so many were just left there' for a long time.

It shouldn't be a surprise that our communities, no matter how large or small, wouldn't be able to handle an epidemic with large numbers of fatalities.

Ebola is yet another threat to humanity.

You know' I wonder how much is being done to find a solution to this problem like they did with HIV. The whole world tried to find a way to get control of HIV many researchers all over. But I don't think that enough is being done to find something for Ebola. And the U.S. should help with research because if it ever comes here, we will be in some very big huge gigantic trouble. If more minds jump on this like they did with HIV they will come up with something.

I agree. More, much more, should be done in researching cures and/or more effective treatment.

The article you linked said that the airport was just outside a town (city?) where people were being treated. What's to keep the illness separated from the air travelers?

Ebola is a grave threat to mankind. Much more research is needed to eradicate it.

It's interesting in that the fruit bat is suspected in the process. The 2011 movie "Contagion" also featured the fruit bat involved. If you look online about the movie, reviewers call it a lethal airborne virus, but it didn't start that way. Apparently, the 'contagion' in the movie evolved to become airborne. Could ebola evolve to do the same?

That is possible' but as of now it does not go through the air. You know all it takes is one case to show up here, and somebody not knowing deals with this person with sexual contact or something.

Quite true.

The US is seeing new cases of diseases that were thought to be eradicated. Even the occasional but typically rare cases of the plague surface in both North & South America.

Ebola could easily become equal opportunity world wide.

Yes you are right diseases of old are popping up. Now I had the Measles, and the Mumps and the Chickenpox when I was a little guy.

With so many parents opting to not vaccinate their children for whatever reason, and with the influx of illegal aliens (who more than likely did not make sure their inoculations were up-to-date), we'll most likely see increases with various diseases. And with world travel, the potential to spread further disease is a real possibility.

From what I've read they understand a lot about how Ebola works, but unfortunately there just isn't much of a push to find a cure. Not trying to bash anyone, just that $$$ sometimes drives the research for a cure. Maybe getting all this attention in the news will bring a little push to find a cure.
We got all our kids vaccinated, just stretched out the schedule some. I've seen where the anti-vaccine movement has backed off that some now with the increase in diseases and autism has been shown to start in utero.

So we have Ebola striking, and the Middle East is experiencing cases of MERS. Because of one case, the patient's co-passengers on a commercial airliner have been encouraged to seek medical attention.
The Philippines health department on Thursday urged all passengers who arrived on an Etihad Airways flight from the Emirati capital Abu Dhabi to Manila earlier in the week to seek testing after officials determined that one person on the plane was found to be infected. He is now being confined to the hospital, and family and friends are also being tested.

Will Ebola soon travel via airplanes?

Many a sickness has come here on boats, like when the Indians were catching diseases from Europe via boats. So stuff coming here by plane or walked across the border is real.
