Today’s evangelistic message seeks to obliterate the offense of the cross!
THE CROSS is offensive … because it is about losing it ALL for Jesus.
And the consequences are the difference between eternal life and death.

The easy-believism, grace-only teachers lead Christains away from the believer’s cross.
They are enemies of the cross, and they teach a whole different gospel than this …

“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross,
and follow Me. For whoever desires to save (4982) his life will lose (622) it, but
whoever loses (622) his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man
if he gains the whole world, and loses (2210) his own soul?”
(Matthew 16:24-26, Mark 8:34-36, NKJV)

“save” (Strong’s #4982, sozo) “of the spiritual and eternal salvation
“lose, destroy, perish” (Strong’s #622, apollumi) “of the loss of eternal life
“loses, lost” (Strong’s #2210, zemioo) “Mark 8:36, of losing one’s soul or life”
(from Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words)

Luke 9 goes deeper than the above passage to add some clarity!
He repeats the warnings about losing eternal salvation, but by equating (in 9:25)
#622 with #2210, he also shows that to lose one’s soul means to lose eternal life …

“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily,
and follow Me. For whoever desires to save (4982) his life will lose (622) it, but
whoever loses (622) his life for My sake will save (4982) it. For what profit is it to a man
if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed (622) or lost (2210)?”
(Luke 9:23-25, NKJV)

To follow means to obey! (No, we’re not talking about obeying Jesus’ invitation to believe.)

Jesus’ gospel of the cross tests how much love people have for Jesus,
and how much appreciation they have for what He has done for them.
Jesus says 3 times in John 14, “He who loves Me will obey My commandments.”
However, most believers today have been deceived into thinking this is not necessary!

“He who loves his life will lose (622) it, and he who hates his life in this world
will keep it for eternal life (2222).” (John 12:25, NKJV)
“life” (Strong’s #2222, zoe) “eternal life … John 5:24, 1 John 3:14”
(from Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words)

“And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
He who finds his life will lose (622) it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.”
(Matthew 10:38-39, NKJV) … This speaks of losing (622) eternal life!

“And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.”
(Luke 14:27, NKJV)

“For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and
count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it – lest, after he has laid
the foundation, and is not able to finish … so likewise, whoever of you
does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.” (Luke 14:28-33, NKJV)
The “tower builder” is the believer who has counted the cost, and has decided
to make a serious commitment to take up his cross and follow (obey) Jesus!

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.”
(Matthew 28:19-20, NLT)

It is NOT too late to become a real disciple of Jesus!
And please realize that this is NOT about absolute perfection, but it is about having the
correct and acceptable “heart attitude” toward God, which includes repenting of your sins!
It’s easy to co-operate with the Holy Spirit … after He has taken away your desire to sin.

So, the obvious follow up to this is what are the commands we are to obey?

I suppose you'll say all of them, so what does 'all' mean?

I suppose you'll say all of them, so what does 'all' mean?
Consider reading the beatitudes as commandments.

then there's:

Rom 13:8Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.

Rom 13:10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

Gal 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Jas 2:8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well;

iakov the fool

So, the obvious follow up to this is what are the commands we are to obey?

I suppose you'll say all of them, so what does 'all' mean?
I'm not Reba but coupling the scriptures she brings out with the information found in the first five in John 1, all means every word of the volume we call the Old Testament just the way the New Testament teaches us to do.

Kinda curiious who these people are.....?
These people have been so deceived that they can live as habitual unrepentant sinners and still go to heaven.
Of course, some will get to see the light, and repent, and will be A-OK.

There are several reasons why church leadership would preach this false gospel.
How good is your imagination? Or wisdom? Or experience?

So here we go with OSAS one more time....Some people just never learn.

Do you write comedy for living?....because this is one of the funniest things I have seen written in some time......especially since it has no basis in scripture.
There are several reasons why church leadership would preach this false gospel.
I am sure you are going to enlighten all of us; I wait with bated breath........
How good is your imagination? Or wisdom? Or experience?
Probably far better than you could imagine.......you know, mile in the moccasin deal.......

It's 'hyper grace', or 'free grace' doctrine.

“I joined a small group 3 years ago that went from having regular prayer meetings and living holy connected lives together to stating ‘prayer is a work and denies grace’ and ‘sin allows grace to do its great work.’ All of our prayer meetings and Bible studies were traded in for game-nights and nights out at the bar to ‘witness’ where many from the group got plastered … all in the name of ‘grace.’

The argument goes that since salvation is not by anything we do then there is nothing you can do to lose it. Even 'having faith' itself, if you think you 'have' to do it to stay saved, is trying to earn your own salvation in hyper-grace doctrine.
We need to put this teaching in the 'fine sounding argument' category of doctrine. It may sound good at first blush, but proves to be utterly false upon scriptural examination. But so many are falling for it. And why shouldn't they? It caters to, and excuses the desires of the flesh.

"...contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints. 4For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ." (Jude 1:3-4 NASB bold mine)

In my 40 plus years of attending church (several denominations) I have never once come across anyone who acts/believes, even remotely, as presented in your link. This sounds like simple attempted indoctrination by the writer of the story; things like this should always be taken with a grain of salt......IMO

Same here. It's a straw man argument.

I have found that this verse does sum up ALL commands.

Romans 13:10 Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

Even this command. John 6:29 Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

When we want to love, we will ask for love to be revealed to us and the answer will be Jesus.

Only through Christ and the Holy Spirit will we know how to walk in the kind of love that God is looking for. (It does no harm)

dirtfarmer here

Paul gives the answer to Jethro Bodine's post # 12. It is found in Romans 6:1-2 & 4.

"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Romans 6:6, " Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin."

Sorry, I have to assume you are saying true believers cannot sin.
If so, this is another proof that most believers have no idea of Paul's method of writing!
In all of Romans 6 (and elsewhere), Paul is simply saying that born-again believers
are NO longer slaves of sin ... but, he does a lot of warning that they must not
CHOOSE to continue to be slaves of sin (leading to eternal death).
Paul is ALWAYS mixing is his dire warnings with his copious amounts of exhortations,
edifications, encouragements, and often exaggerating almost to the point of lying!
All done to not be offensive and be welcome to visit.
All done to not discourage the baby believers.
Deeper truths are to be revealed to whomever by the precious indwelling Holy Spirit.

Me neither. They don't attend the kind of churches I have attended. They seem to be attracted to the mega churches. They have strong representation right here in cf.net.

I'm curious. How is it that you do not realize you have been actively participating in threads with a number of people right here in cf.net who vehemently defend hyper-grace doctrine?

Correct.
It's called the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
That's where the power of love comes from. (God's definition of love, not ours)

"I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7 NASB)

The straw man is lumping everyone into one basket. And I participate in threads and don't have control as to who posts or doesn't. If you want to discuss hyper grace you can start a thread. Probably as long as OSAS isn't a part of it.

nope this is not a Bible Study type thread
As much i like Wilkerson this is Bible Study not the Wilkerson Study...
Hopefully we can find as much decorum here in this forum as each of us woud want for a Bible Study in our church or home...
