Ephesians 5:1-20 does this pertain to like movies and video games I don't think either of them are sins but this makes me think
 
Php_4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

And not everyone is correct but Jesus will not be upset because you nor I saw thar stuff to harden our hearts.

Thing is if Jesus was sitting right next to me which he basically is, he already sees what I see I'd play video games and watch movies that are like that i don't think he cares I don't think it's a sin so for me it's not a sin Romans 14 what do you think?
 
please take all of Scripture into consideration .. I have told you already what i thought.. not playing the game...

This is hard. In America it seems to be even harder. I believe it pertains to everything in life. Paul did not give any qualifications.

I don't think we can qualify what is sin and what isn't. We can often believe something might not be sin when we really want to do/watch it.

I have been watching a movie or TV show and really felt it was wrong. Even if I was not doing what they were, or acting like them, it still did not sit well.

What happens is we get 'desensitized' to sin by participating through watching. It's been said the military desensitizes soldiers by having them play war video games. Then, when it comes to actual battle the soldiers are not shocked by the violence.

It works with us too. If you listen to bad things long enough you get 'used' to them. Watch bad things long enough, you get used to seeing them.

The real problem is it hinders your ability to witness to others. How can you tell someone to turn from sin to Christ when you do the same things they do? They won't understand the need, and you don't feel you can reason with them because you do the same thing.

Worse yet, you run into the situation Paul talks about in Romans 2.

Romans 2:1 (ESV) 1 Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things.

Romans 2:2 (ESV) 2 We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things.

Romans 2:3 (ESV) 3 Do you suppose, O man--you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself--that you will escape the judgment of God?

Romans 2:4 (ESV) 4 Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?

Gods kindness is meant to lead us to repentance. That's what grace is all about. Repentance is turning away from sin - not rationalizing the staying in it.

If you become hard hearted by watching/playing sinful things, then you can get prideful to others and pass judgement on them.

Best bet is when something doesn't seem right, and it lines up with what God calls sin, to stay away from it. Temptation often makes sin seem ok, but it never does any good to follow it.

It pertains to LIFE itself, including movies and video games.
There is little or nothing I can say since post 9 by Nathan kinda said it all.

Right, your change of mind will change your actions also. If your actions don't change, then your mind hasn't really changed.

The letter of James really describes this. I would read it through start to finish. Doesn't take long. Maybe 20 mins at most?

I don't think that it hinders are way to witness to people we're assuming that that person has murdered and were also assuming that me going up to a fake line of code in a video game and shooting them makes me a murderer in real life. But then I go back to the verse reba posted that says "abstain from all appearances of evil" and then I'm left all confused

Reba is correct. I've found confusion comes when we want to believe one thing, but the Spirit of God is leading us to another way of thinking. God is not the author of confusion.

I don't look up to anyone other than God but it's not that he inspires me to do good things it's that I know to do good things because of him. I guess that the Holy Spirit inspires me to do good things because when we get saved we have new desires I guess I could also say that God inspired me to read the Bible and the result of that was a change of my life in a few months and I thank God for that. But what does this have to do with the conversation

Usually, the people who inspire us or who we look up to have shown very positive, very influential attitudes. They usually don't spend their hours in activities that don't move us forward in this life.

It's brilliant that the Holy Spirit inspires you as well our as Lord God!

Every time I've come back from wondering whether video games are a sin or not I've always concluded that they aren't I have a feeling that this time might be the same.
