EVIL
part 2 How to recognize and overcome it.

How to Recognize Evil
Evil is easy and hedonistic.
Judges 2:19
But when the judge died, the people returned to ways even more corrupt than those of their ancestors, following other gods and serving and worshiping them. They refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn ways.

Temptations
Psalm 141:4 Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies.

Foolishness leads to evil
Isaiah 32:6 For fools speak folly, their hearts are bent on evil: They practice ungodliness and spread error concerning the LORD; the hungry they leave empty and from the thirsty they withhold water.

Sin manifests evil
Romans 6:12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.

Unfaithfulness leads to doing evil
2 Chronicles 29:6 Our parents were unfaithful; they did evil in the eyes of the LORD our God and forsook him. They turned their faces away from the LORD's dwelling place and turned their backs on him.

Fear leads to deception, which is planned evil.
Proverbs 12:20 Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil, but those who promote peace have joy.
Psalm 50:19 You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue to deceit.

Wolf in sheep clothing
Psalm 28:3 Do not drag me away with the wicked, with those who do evil, who speak cordially with their neighbors but harbor malice in their hearts.

Evil in heart, soul, stored up in a persons
Matthew 12:34-35 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. 35. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.

Hardened heart is NOT soft and gentle.
Psalm 73:7 From their callous hearts comes iniquity; their evil imaginations have no limits.

Evil hates the truth and hates being exposed, and being humbled to repentance.
John 3:20 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

How to Overcome Evil
Learn to distinguish good from evil
Hebrews 5:13-14 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

Do not get recruited into doing evil
Psalm 7:14 Whoever is pregnant with evil conceives trouble and gives birth to disillusionment.
1 Peter 3:9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

How to flee from evil
1 Thessalonians 5:22 reject every kind of evil.
2 Timothy 2:22 Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Overcome evil with good
Romans 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Plan to do good.
Proverbs 14:22 Do not those who plot evil go astray? But those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness.

Confess your sins and fight the good fight
1 Timothy 6:11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

Truth ruins evil
Proverbs 10:29 The way of the LORD is a refuge for the blameless, but it is the ruin of those who do evil.
Stand against evil.
Ephesians 6:12-16 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15. and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

Follow Jesus Christ in all things...
John 10:1-18
Here is verses 3-5 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice."

...by listening and following the way the truth and the life, of a sheep (humble and meek) following the Good Shepard.

Remain soft and gentle in all things.
It takes absolute faith and conviction to stand your ground while remaining soft and gentle.
This is facing evil from the Spiritual perspective as opposed from the worldly flesh perspective.
It is fearless.

Thank you Hermit for these valuable lessons and I pray many will read what you have presented for our learning.

I agree with my Glory Girl (for_his_glory) When I think of folk who are more prone to fear and evil doings, I think of....
John 2:23 "Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.
2:24 But Yahshua did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,
2:25 And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man."

For whatever reason, these folk made a profession of faith in Jesus for salvation probably because of seeing His miracles (V.23)

The word faith, is sort of an empty word, hard to pin down. A better word is belief! Belief is more concrete, IMO. There is an old Hebrew saying that in order to live with Yahweh living in a Believer, He must "Pitch His tent with us" AND, we must pitch our tent with Him. That means, I must realize that Yahweh my Elohim and I are side by side day and night because we are occupying the same tent. Evil has no welcome into our tent. Meditate on this thought, my friends.
