Luke 14:26 (NASB) “If anyone comes to Me, and does not ______ his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple."
Ok, I cheated ... but it WAS a trick question!

E. Hate
Is correct per most English translations like:
Luke 14:26
[NIV] “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple."
[NKJV] "If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple."

G. μισέω: properly, to detest (on a comparative basis); hence, denounce; to love someone or something less than someone (something) else, i.e. to renounce one choice in favor of another.
Is correct according to the original Greek like:
[Textus Receptus] Εἴ τις ἔρχεται πρός με καὶ οὐ μισεῖ τὸν πατέρα ἑαυτοῦ καὶ τὴνμητέρα καὶ τὴν γυναῖκα καὶ τὰ τέκνα καὶ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς καὶ τὰς ἀδελφάςἔτι δέ καὶ τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ψυχὴν οὐ δύναται μου μαθητής εἶναί

Strong's doesn't quite define it primarily the way you do:
μισέω miséō, mis-eh'-o; from a primary μῖσος mîsos (hatred); to detest (especially to persecute); by extension, to love less:—hate(-ful).

So sort of, but not really. Do you have evidence that this is the correct definition in this case (Luke 14:26)?

Does John 3:20 [NKJV] “For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.", which uses the same word also mean to "love less"?

I posted the link to where it comes from.
It's the HELPS definition listed under the Strongs' definition c; "love less" on Biblehub
Does the link not showup on your machine?

Luke 14:26 (AMP) “If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life in the sense of indifference to or relative disregard for them in comparison with his attitude toward God—he cannot be My disciple.
Does John 3:20 [NKJV] “For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.", which uses the same word also mean to "love less"?

Yes. Since the context shows it's loving less relative to loving Christ's exposure (light) of sin (darkness).

John 3:18-21 (AMP) Whoever believes and has decided to trust in Him as personal Savior and Lord is not judged for this one, there is no judgment, no rejection, no condemnation; but the one who does not believe and has decided to reject Him as personal Savior and Lord is judged already that one has been convicted and sentenced, because he has not believed and trusted in the name of the One and only begotten Son of God the One who is truly unique, the only One of His kind, the One who alone can save him. This is the judgment that is, the cause for indictment, the test by which people are judged, the basis for the sentence: the Light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For every wrongdoer hates the Light, and does not come to the Light but shrinks from it for fear that his sinful, worthless activities will be exposed and condemned. But whoever practices truth and does what is right—morally, ethically, spiritually comes to the Light, so that his works may be plainly shown to be what they are—accomplished in God divinely prompted, done with God’s help, in dependence on Him.”

1 Corinthians 13:12 For now in this time of imperfection we see in a mirror dimly a blurred reflection, a riddle, an enigma, but then when the time of perfection comes we will see reality face to face. Now I know in part just in fragments, but then I will know fully, just as I have been fully known by God.

From my own experience I have concluded that the correct understanding of the word 'hate' is to 'resent' your family.
I had these feelings of resentment for my unsaved family drawing my attention away from Christ and the church. I would have rather been in church meeting with my brothers and sisters learning about and discussing the things of God instead of being at a family barbecue when the two conflicted.
