The problem with understanding the 2 Holy Spirit baptisms
is that the church today (and what it has been taught)
is so different than what the NT church believed in.
Satan has been successful in deceiving the church about
several things, including “the baptism with the Holy Spirit”
and the 9 spiritual power gifts (1 Corinthians 12).
So, please read the following with an open mind and heart.

Paul said the Holy Spirit is the One who baptizes the new believer:
“For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body [the church] … and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.”
(1 Corinthians 12:13)

The new believer (a BAC) receives the Holy Spirit INSIDE
(John 14:16-23, Romans 8:11, 1 Corinthians 3:16, Galatians 4:6,
2 Timothy 1:14, 1 John 3:24, 1 John 4:12-16).

First: Jesus gave the Holy Spirit to His 11 disciples:
Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me,
so I am sending you.” Then He breathed on them and said,
Receive the Holy Spirit” (John 20:21-22)

And the Holy Spirit baptized them as new believers
(see 1 Corinthians 12:13). Please note …
All BACs are given peace by “the Prince of peace”
(Isaiah 9:6
).
“For Christ Himself has brought peace to us.”
(Ephesians 2:14)
“God’s peace exceeds anything we can understand” (Philippians 4:7)

John the Baptist: Jesus is the One who baptizes with the Holy Spirit in these verses: Matthew 3:11, Mark 1:8, Luke 3:16, John 1:33.

Second: Jesus promised them that they would receive the gift of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which brings a spiritual anointing and power:
● “Behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you;
but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49, NKJV)
● “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you
the gift He promised, as I told you before [in Luke 24:49].
John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 1:4)
● “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be My witnesses, telling people about Me everywhere …” (Acts 1:8)

The baptism with the Holy Spirit was the gift which had been promised.

Third: Jesus’ 11 disciples witnessed to others who became BACs:
“During this time, when about 120 believers were together in one place, Peter stood up and addressed them, “Brothers …” (Acts 1:15)

Fourth: a few days later, the now 12 disciples (and others) experienced the day of Pentecost:
“On the day of Pentecost all the [120] believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty wind-storm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled [up] on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking with other languages [tongues], as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.” (Acts 2:1-4)

Prior to the day of Pentecost, the 120 were all new believers
(BACs actually), and they had received the Holy Spirit INSIDE
(see 1 Corinthians 12:13).

On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came UPON
the 120 believers. Other examples of this (other than Luke 24:49, Acts 1:8, Acts 2:1-4 above) are: Acts 8:14-19, Acts 10:44-48,
Acts 11:15-16, Acts 19:5-6 … see below …

“… Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them* … For as yet He [the Holy Spirit] had fallen upon none of them*. They* had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them*, and they received the Holy Spirit. And when Simon saw that through the laying on of hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, saying, ‘Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.’” (Acts 8:14-19) * the Samarians

“… the Holy Spirit fell upon all those [Gentiles] who heard the word … the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they [Peter and his compan-ions] heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter asked, ‘Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized [in water] who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?’ And he commanded them to be [water] baptized in the name of the Lord.“ (Acts 10:44-48)

“… the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning. Then I remembered the word of the Lord,
how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water,
but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ ”
(Acts 11:15-16)

“… they [the disciples in Ephesus] were baptized [in water]
in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied …” (Acts 19:5-6)

Water baptism preceded the baptism with the Holy Spirit
(but in Acts 10 above the reverse was true).

There is one baptism, according to Ephesians 4:5. I would say there only seems to be two types of baptisms. But John the Baptist said Jesus would come to baptize with the Holy Spirit. This fullness of baptism isn't something we outwardly do with water or with words, but Jesus does through the Spirit of God. Baptism means to submerge, so Jesus submerges our hearts and minds with the Holy Spirit, and this is the baptism I believe Paul is speaking of in Ephesians.

Timeline ...

Jesus' 11 disciples were given the Holy Spirit
(making them BACs) in John 20:21-22.
This first Spirit baptism is done by the Holy Spirit
(so says 1 Corinthians 12:13).

Prior to the day of Pentecost …
the 120 were called "believers" (in Acts 1:15).

On the day of Pentecost,
before anything exciting happened,
the 120 were called "believers" (in Acts 2:1)

Finally, the 120 "believers" received the baptism with the Holy Spirit ... with the evidence of speaking in tongues (Acts 2:2-4).
This second Spirit baptism is done by Jesus Christ
(Matthew 3:11, Mark 1:8, Luke 3:16, John 1:33).

I have a pastor who said when God started to draw him to Christ, and he eventually accepted Jesus and called him Lord, that he waited until he was in college before he got baptized with water and made his testimony. I really believe a person is "baptized in the Spirit" as he is filled and refilled with the Spirit of God through Jesus, who baptizes with the Spirit of God. To me it's a continuous action. And this continuous action is considered the One Baptism. And my thoughts are that this can happen before you get water baptized. What are your thoughts on this Senior?

It is impossible for anyone to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit today. There are various measures of the Spirit. The indwelling of the Spirit which all Christians have is water baptism, Acts 2:38.

Why aren't your thoughts just focused on, and satisfied with, Scripture?
Scripture indicates that being baptized with the Holy Spirit
is a one-time event ... Scripture could have said that someone
was baptized with the Holy Spirit AGAIN, but it never does!
Scripture says BACs can be "re-filled" with the Holy Spirit.
Just like Scripture says BACs can being given "more" grace!

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Ephesians 4:1-5

Paul taught us there are three expressions of Baptism.

Three is the number which denotes fullness.

Just as there is a fullness to God; Father, Word, Holy Spirit, so also there is a fullness to the “one baptism”, you refer to.

This same Paul, also taught there are “baptisms”, in the book of Hebrews, as well as 1 Corinthians 10.

Let’s all be open to what the whole counsel of God teaches about this vital doctrine.

Brother Senior has pointed out some good scriptures for discussion, just as you have.

I hope we can study and compare all the scriptures that teach us about baptisms.

Here are a couple verses to add to the discussion.

Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits. Hebrews 6:1-3

Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 1 Corinthians 10:1-2

What do we think about this? ...
Because we have only one Lord, we have only one faith,
i.e. we believe in the one Lord Jesus Christ. And because
we have only one Lord, we also have only one baptism,
i.e. that we are baptized in the name of that one Lord.

My thoughts are focused and satisfied with Scripture. It's how I'm interpreting the Scripture is different than others maybe because this is my individual experience.

This is how I experienced and continue to experience God's salvation and the new life:

1. The Father draws us near to Christ (John 6:44)
2. We believe and have faith in Christ (Romans 10:9)
3. The Holy Spirit is sealed in our hearts (2 Cor 1:21-22)
4. We are water-baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matt 28:18-19)
5. Jesus comes to "baptize" or immerse us or fill us with the Holy Spirit (John 1:33)
6. We read the Word continually to keep ourselves filled with His Spirit (Romans 12:2)

I don't think this is much different than what anybody else experiences.

The Holy Spirit is sealed in our hearts (2 Cor 1:21-22)

Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
Ephesians 1:13

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30

The Holy Spirit is God’s seal of authenticity upon genuine believers; that is to say, those who have obeyed the Gospel.

And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
Acts 5:32

That would be the first baptism, which is performed by
the precious Holy Spirit (1 Cor 12:13).

I tend to agree with you, however that is the same term used of water baptism as well.

In Acts 19, I believe it does indeed refer to the Holy Spirit baptizing is into Christ.

As I have said before, I enjoy your posts and tend to agree with most everything you write.

What I may disagree with, is probably just semantics.

God bless you.

Glad the Lord led you to our Forum.

this where the split comes in many feel the baptism of the spirit is the evidence of speaking in tongues which gives you power .i got the power when i got saved i just had to learn how it use it. i been baptized into the body of Christ the moment i got saved . the infilling is a continuing process

I think you mean the evidence of the Baptism with the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues.

There is definitely evidence that someone has been baptized with the Holy Spirit, in that when it happens, people can see and hear it happen.

This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear. Acts 2:32-33

This evidence is seen consistently throughout the scriptures.

... the infilling is a continuing process
I am lacking in this "infilling" understanding.

However, God's grace is a continuing process
... as it can vary (IMO) from 100% right down to 0%.
I.E. Those who have rejected Christ have fallen from grace!
(They went from X% filled to 0% filled.)
