Four Things God Wants You to Know

1. You Need To Be Saved

"Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3)

"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)

"There is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not." (Ecclesiastes 7:20)

"We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags." (Isaiah 64:6)

2. You Cannot Save Yourself

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us." (Titus 3:5)

"By the works of the law shall no flesh be justified." (Galatians 2:16)

"For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." (James 2:10)

"There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." (Proverbs 14:12)

3. Jesus Has Already Provided For Your Salvation

"Who [Jesus] his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness." (1 Peter 2:24)

"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God." (1 Peter 3:18)

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

4. Jesus Will Enable You to Overcome Temptation

"The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished." (2 Peter 2:9)

"If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Your Part:

1. Repent (Turn from your sins)

"Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:3)

2. Believe

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." (Acts 16:31)

3. Do It Now

"Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near." (Isaiah 55:6)

"Behold, now is the day of salvation." (2 Corinthians 6:2)

"How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?" (Hebrews 2:3)

4. Remember

"Every one of us shall give account of himself to God." (Romans 14:12)

"It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." (Hebrews9:27)

"But he that believeth on him...shall not come into judgment." (John 5:24)

"Choose you this day whom ye will serve." (Joshua 24:15)

Excellent post!

Here is another one from the same website...

Can We Be Sure?

Can we be sure we'll spend eternity in heaven? Many people say you can't be sure. Are they right? Does spending eternity in Heaven or Hell have to remain uncertain until it's too late?
Queen Victoria wanted to be sure. After attending a service in St. Paul's Cathedral, she asked her Chaplain, "Can one be absolutely sure in this life of eternal safety?" Be he didn't know any way to be certain.

The Court News published the remarks and John Townsend, an unassuming evangelist, saw them. After reading Queen Victoria's question and the answer she had received, Townsend began to think and pray about answering her himself. Then he sent the following note to the Queen:

To her gracious Majesty, our beloved Queen Victoria, from one of her most humble subjects:

With trembling hands, but heartfelt love, and because I know that we can be absolutely sure now of our eternal life in the Home that Jesus went to prepare, may I ask your Most Gracious Majesty to read the following passages of Scripture: John 3:16; Romans 10:9,10?

These passages prove that there is full assurance of salvation by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ for those who believe and accept His finished work.

I sign myself, your servant for Jesus' sake, John Townsend.

John Townsend told others about his letter to the Queen. Many prayers from many hearts went up to God. In about two weeks he received a modest-looking envelope containing the following letter:

To John Townsend: Your letter of recent date I received and in reply would state that I have carefully and prayerfully read the portions of Scripture referred to. I believe in the finished work of Christ for me, and trust by God's grace to meet you in that Home of which He said, "I go to prepare a place for you."

(Signed) Victoria Guelph

The way of salvation is the same for a queen or a common citizen. The Bible verses John Townsend recommended to the Queen were:

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believe in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

"If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Romans 10:9,10)

These verses and many other in the Word of God show us that anyone who, by faith, received Jesus Christ as Saviour has eternal life immediately. The Apostle John tells us that his Gospel was written, "that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name." (John 20:31)

Those who believe have eternal salvation. Jesus Himself said: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." (John 5:24)

Can a Christian ever lose his salvation? "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand." (John 10:27,28)

"It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." (Hebrews9:27)

"But he that believeth on him...shall not come into judgment." (John 5:24)

"Choose you this day whom ye will serve." (Joshua 24:15)

Does God also want us to know these things?

And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read?" And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." And he said to him, "You have answered correctly; DO THIS, and you will live." (Luke 10:25-28).

Was Jesus being sarcastic? Read the parable of the Good Samaritan which immediately follows this passage and which Jesus uses to illustrate his point and concludes to the lawyer, "Go and DO likewise," a parable on just HOW to do loving one's neighbor and so inherit eternal life.

The Lord will judge his people. It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Hebrews 12:30-31; cf. 2 Cor 5:10-11).

"To the elect.... as He who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; since it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy." And if you invoke as Father him who judges each one impartially according to his works, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile. (1 Peter 1:1, 15-17; cf. 2 Cor 5:10-11).

(To the Hebrew Christians): Pursue peace with all men, and Holiness without which no one will see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14).

God will render to everyone according to his works. To those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation. There will be tribulation and distress for every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek, but glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no partiality with God.... on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus. (Romans 2:5-16).

What shall we do with these words from the servants of God writing these things in his name by the Spirit within them?

No a Christian cannot "lose" his salvation. But the very nature of this question is deceptive, whether intentional or not. A Christian can't "KEEP" his salvation either anymore than he can keep his 10th birthday. Salvation is not a possession that one loses or keeps. It is an event that occurs in time, not a possession we own like a marble we might otherwise lose or keep. We do not go around keeping or losing past events. No lone loses OR keeps his Ephesians 2:8 salvation event.

The real question is whether or not all people who have become born again Christians will be saved, or fall short of being saved, when Jesus comes again. That salvation event is yet to come.

The Bible makes it abundantly clear that being born again is no guarantee of being saved when Jesus comes again. But just try to tell that to the Calvinistic types.

I really wish it were that easy.

I don't want to drag this thread off topic so maybe we can discuss it somewhere else.

Have a blessed day! :)

Your wish is a reality.

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

I know I have eternal life.

Romans 4:3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

I believe God... :biggrin

So then tell us how you went about doing this believing.

Also please explain how you can be sure you will be saved when Jesus comes again.

1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

1 Corinthians 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

1 Corinthians 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

John 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

John 11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

I believe! :biggrin

Sounds to me like you are saying that you think you are saved by agreeing with some particular ideas about Jesus and because you had these agreeable thoughts you were saved by God.

Fortunately my salvation is not dependent upon how things "sound" to you.

My eternal life and salvation is based upon believing God.

John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Ephesians 1:13-14 "In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory."

A person needs to believe in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved. :biggrin

Acts 16:29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,

Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Let's try again. How did the jailer go about doing this believing. Please explain in detail. Did he agree with some ideas about Jesus that Paul told him? Explain how he went about doing this believing.

Rather than me "jumping through hoops" to answer your questions why don't you just state your position.

I am going to be posting more on the topic of salvation in this thread. I have some errands to run.

Until later,

Robert

I am simply trying to understand your position. Let's try again.

Let's try again. How did the jailer go about doing this believing. Please explain in detail. Did he agree with some ideas about Jesus that Paul told him? Explain how he went about doing this believing.

Faith is what it takes to receive the grace to be saved. Not just faith but faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross for our sins.

John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

Jesus died for our sins. Moses lifted up the image of a fiery serpent in the wilderness and those Hebrews who looked upon it lived.

Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.

Numbers 21:7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.

Moses a type of Christ prayed for the sins of the people.

Numbers 21:8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.

Numbers 21:9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

Those who look to Jesus for Salvation shall be saved from the penalty of sin. Eternal damnation. Death.

It is not just mere mental assent that Jesus died for our sins but a saving faith. After all the truth must be "received with love".

2 Thessalonians 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

Satan knows the truth but he hates it. Satan knows who Christ is and what our Saviour has done for us.

It is that type of saving faith that will save us.

Belief, belief, belief...

Acts 15:10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Acts 15:11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Acts 16:32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.

Acts 16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.

Acts 16:34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

The Philipian Jailer heard the gospel and was saved.

1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

1 Corinthians 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

1 Corinthians 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

The entire Old Testament sacrifice points to the fact that Jesus would bear the sins of the world and that those people who placed their faith in Him and acknowledged their sinful state and need for a Saviour would have salvation.

1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Receiving Christ gives us the power to become a son of God.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Believing on Christ is doing the works of God...

John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

Jesus is the sin bearer and through faith in Him we have life everlasting.

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

We must have faith in Him and His name to be saved.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Amen! :biggrin
