State bird: Cardinal
 
Ha ha ha, That reminds my of an AA saying, "Don't get my wrong, I might be a mad alky but I am no Al Capone."
 
Just looked up the Cardinal on Wiki. I did not realize that they were that big, and a common species, a state bird to seven states. But you are right, they are quite stunning.
 
They are very common in the US Midwest (and beyond) .... in fact, the St Louis Cardinals baseball team uses the bird as their emblem.
 
This bird is quite common here. It is awesome watching these large birds, in a flock, catch a thermal and slowly spiral upwards.
This one is watching, from a telegraph pole, the waters next to a bridge.

Beautiful photo of the hawk.
It reminds me of a hawk I saw, hovering still, about 50 feet over a nearby field. Then it dived straight down into the tall grass. A moment later it flew back up to its original position, hovering, and with a dead mouse in its talons. A half minute passed and another hawk swooped by me towards the hovering hawk. It flipped over and grabbed the mouse and flew back from where it came from - to a distant crop of trees. The hovering hawk did not flinch, and stayed busy looking for more food. I then realized I just witnessed a hawk family taking care of its young.

While walking along the beach, during a sunset, I saw the red clouds and a nearby silhouette of a pine tree.
I thought it would be fun to align myself with the tree between the clouds and my camera.
The photo reminds me of the burning bush Scripture.

This is awesome, I had never heard of them doing that, thanks for sharing. I've witnessed balded eagles doing their mating ritual which is mostly in the air, took my breathe away a few times, they looked like they would fall.
