You sure live in a beautiful place.....

I'm a forty eight year old Aussie! Gday old bloke :biggrin2 Welcome.
Important questions for you. Just for a convo.
Which side are you on?
League or Aussie rules?
Holden or Ford?
Which is the most beautiful state?

Why is Union not in there Paul?

Did you not remember millions of years ago that AU was once part of NZ?

:biggrin2
:lol2:hysterical
Hey Kiwi, yep I do remember, it the remnants of Oz that have given your greats like Hadlee their inherited from Oz ancestors skills. Jonah, well he was just a freak of nature that man.
No union jack because it is the Eureka stockade flag. When the Aussie miners Led by the Honorable Peter Laylor rebelled against the greed of the monarchy. It is actually the first Aussie flag not counting the jack of British colonial days.
The miners lost, but it did move the governor to rethink ripping off the workers.
Something a lot of people don't know is that the flag was actually designed by a Canadian miner at Eureka, but we'll keep it between you n me eh :)
I don't support the use of the Union Jack on the Aussie flag nowadays as we should have become independent 15 years ago if it weren't for a rigged referendum so that the then PM (a monarchist) could get his OBE.
And yes, before anyone asks, My father fought under the current Oz flag as did my brother. Brother agrees with me.

A big apology to Agua for derailing his welcome thread.
Blessings

Hi Ms Kathi: NZ, consisting of two main islands, North and South, is a separate dominion from Australia which itself is known as a Commonwealth. It's interesting, though, that some states of Australia were already in existence at the beginning of the 20th century, when the Commonwealth of Australia was established, just like Canada, where some of the provinces predate Confederation of 1867.

Whereas New Zealand was always more or less one entity under British rule.

The Queen is still head of state in Australia, New Zealand and Canada, but these countries no longer come under the British government.

Blessings.

but unlike America, where the queen has nothing to do with the government of the us. we kicked them out and after 1812 made them good friends.

It's interesting that with all the commemorations and reenactments of the War of 1812, the US-Canadian border has long been widely regarded as the most peaceful in the world.

Blessings.

It would be a lot cooler if everyone were friendly neighbours. Fighting resolves nothing. It has no logic.
I was recently reading a fiction novel about the underground railroad in the 1800's.Have you heard of that?It was very secretive.People would smuggle the slaves into Canada where they would then be free.

Farouk, ALL of the states were in existence at the beginning of the century. The exception is the ACT (Australian capital territory) where th evil-doers who destroy run the country are ensconced.
