Is 1:2 "Listen, O heavens, and hear O earth; For the Lord speaks

We are told to listen to the Lord, because He does speak to us. I fact it is the that commandment is the foremost command!

Mark 12:28,29 ... What commandment is the foremost of all?" Jesus answered, "The foremost is, HEAR, O ISRAEL!... (I quoted from a red-letter Bible, but thought it made the point well)

So if we are keeping the foremost commandment, we are doing to be desiring to listen to the Lord. And What does He tell us???

The specific thing He tells me the most is "I love you". But He tells me lots more than that. He gives me instructions, and teachings, and the type of things that only God can tell me. Some of the more common things are words of wisdom and knowledge. So if I am ministering, what do you think He tells me then. It's similar.

He has me in a healing ministry, but I don't just pray for people to be healed, I work for the Lord and follow His instructions. That is what I try to do. And He often tells me someone has a problem that they haven't told us about.

So perhaps I will (and I have) hear Him tell me the person has a problem with their knee. So I usually say something like "You have a problem with your knee.?" It is a statement, but I kind of put it out like a question. People get sensitive, and the Lord can be strange, so I have found it is sometimes good to be a bit cautious. The person usually starts to get amazed. Yeah, they have heard about the healing ministry but now they really start to think this is incredible that I know about their problem when they had never brought it up.

It really is not that incredible at all!! The incredible part is that they came to a healing ministry and didn't bring it up. God had to. That's incredible. Still, God of course knows, and Still God Speaks. And we don't normally get random people off the streets, we normally get Christians. Normally they attend our specific church. We have about 10,000 people that attend the church. But we get a lot from other churches, because most don't have a healing ministry.

The point I am trying to make is that we Christians do not desire the gifts of the Spirit like we should, Which is another way of saying that we are not desiring to seek the Lord our God like we should! We do not consider, rightly, that He speaks and we need to listen. Other wise we would have words of knowledge and wisdom. If we did we would see a lot more people helped, and God glorified more.

Is there any reason God could not tell you at work that someone has a need they should have prayer for. Of course that might cause problems with the principalities there. Persecution is guaranteed. But what is the wise thing to do?

The Lord once told me, "Karl, we hear wisdom but is it hearing or acting upon it that makes a man wise?"

So be wise. Listen to the Lord our God who speaks and act upon what He tells you. Desire that!

I for one do not believe in a one man healing ministry as all who are Spiritually born again have the gift of healing plus all the gifts of the Holy Spirit as we are all members that make up one body of Christ. As one body we all work together for the common good of the whole body to reach out to those who are seeking to know Christ. It is God through His Holy Spirit who disperses the gifts within the body to those who desire to have them for the purpose of Gods ministry whether it is inside the Church as being a gathering of His people or that of being out in the world no matter where you are as we need to desire the best gifts for various situations we find ourselves in that can lead us to minister to others as all is done for the witness and the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. 28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? 30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? 31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent way.

Here are a few people who had the mistaken idea they new more or new better then the Scriptures Cause God told them...
By the early 1970s, Jones began deriding traditional Christianity as "fly away religion", rejecting the Bible as being a tool to oppress women and non-whites, and denouncing a "Sky God" who was no God at all.[1] Jones wrote a booklet titled "The Letter Killeth", criticizing the King James Bible.[4

When Koresh announced that God had instructed him to marry Rachel Jones (who then added Koresh to her name),

Other than the Bible, the majority of the LDS canon constitutes revelation received by Joseph Smith and recorded by his scribes which includes commentary and exegesis about the Bible, texts described as lost parts of the Bible, and other works believed to be written by ancient prophets

Kim said that he had been approached by Jesus on Gangsan mountain, and was given the mission to spread the message of a "new Israel” throughout the world. In the 1940s Moon attended a church in Sangdo dong that was led by Kim.[48] Moon later said that Kim was a "John the Baptist figure".[

Armstrong had the time to take up this challenge. He began what would become a lifelong habit of intensive, lengthy Bible study sessions. He soon felt God was inspiring this, opening his mind to truths that historical Christian churches had not found or accepted.

Listen to the Bible.
Specifically, the New Testament, as its the final authority.
Its God speaking to you, so that you can get clear light, vs, some inner voice that might be a demon or a split personality disorder.
And that heaven sent verse that tells you to "study to show thyself approved unto God".... is talking about your bible.
And the verse that tells you to "renew your mind"....is talking about the bible.

The Scriptures are not God speaking to you , it was God speaking to others and having them write down information.

We can easily see that in the Scriptures in several places.

Gal 3:22 But the Scriptures has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
and the problem is really magnified in Jn 5:39 You search the Scriptures because you think in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life

and that was elaborated further on in Jn :46,47 For if you believed in Moses you would believe in Me. But if you do not believe his writing, how will you believe My words?

So over and over we see a distinction between Jesus , His words, and the Scriptures. None of that means we should not study the Scriptures. Among other things they are good for reproof, and for teaching.

For example in Isaiah, we see that the Lord speaks.

Is 1:2 Listen, O heavens, and hear O earth; for the Lord speaks.

We should come to know by reading the Bible. Abraham hear the Lord speaking to him. Moses heard the Lord speaking to him, The prophets of old heard from Him. Paul heard from Him. And Jesus explained that His sheep hear HIs voice.

Which get us back to the gifts of wisdom and words or knowledge, which is what this thread is about.

King Solomon is a great example of someone that heard words of wisdom from God. In fact is you ever want a lot of verses about the importance of listening to God; Proverbs has them.

Prov 1:20 Wisdom shouts in the streets, She lifts up her voice in the square
and one of my favorites
Prov 2:6 For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding

One of the name for the Lord is 'Wonderful Counselor', and a wonderful counselor would certainly be wise and would thus give you good knowledge and understanding. And we see that God sent us HIs Holy Spirit, who speaks

Jn 16:13... But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak....

For example, and concerning the Scriptures and the Lord, the Spirit told me:

WE DON’T USE THE LORD TO PREACH THE SCRIPTURES; WE USE THE SCRIPTURES TO PREACH THE LORD!!

That is pretty simple and should be obvious. We should be taking verses in the Bible to tell people about Jesus Christ. He really does exist. He really did say.
