James 4:6 But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says:

God resists the proud,

but gives grace to the humble

HUM'BLE, a. L. humilis.

1. Low; opposed to high or lofty.

Thy humble nest built on the ground.

2. Low; opposed to lofty or great; mean; not magnificent; as a humble cottage.

A humble roof, and an obscure retreat.

3. Lowly; modest; meek; submissive; opposed to proud, haughty, arrogant or assuming. In an evangelical sense, having a low opinion of one's self, and a deep sense of unworthiness in the sight of God.

God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble. James 4.....what do you feel is genuine Humbleness.... imo Billy Graham showed characteristics of a humble life before God .he made it not about Him but the one who paid our sin debt i ran across this in my study When we don’t humble ourselves, we are really saying we don’t trust God. amen or o me... Micah wrote he has showed us o man what is Good and what does the Lord require of us.. last part is walk humbly with your God . How well do we/you understand being Humble. before you start polishing your halo to give the answer ..there are subjects in this forum that touches off a fire storm.. Eternal security for one..how humble are we in our response pro or cons... as i studied out parts of james 4 humble reached out hit me on the end of the nose.. so i toss this out to read others thoughts

Great post. Humility is one of those things that is difficult. One has to die to self and realize that all comes from the Father to us as gifts. Give glory to God for all things and serve one another in love considering others better than oneself. Only possible in the power of the Spirit of Christ working in our lives!

IMO billy graham understood being humble ... i was not a big follower of him but i had deep respect for him a true father in the Lord :amen

Yes, he was that for sure. I appreciate his long obedience to the Lord.

Humility seems necessary to truly be a servant to others and that from a pure heart. Jesus was our prime example of this.

Dying to self is not easy but absolutely essential.
Matthew 18:2 4 NKJV

2. Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them,
3. And said, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the Kingdom of heaven.
4. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

God is our Father and we His little children.

Great thread.

the biggest problem we face is that we are not always as humble as we should be.. we humble our self when we need the Lord sickness problems etc.. 5 Do ye think that the Scripture saith in vain, “The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy”? wonder why he put that there? could it just be true . we can read into james 4 and see he was addressing some problems.. these same problems exist today nothing has changed amen or o me... this is not popular ..but if we want the Grace we have to hunble ourselves before God.. in other word get down to business with him.. he outlines steps to take
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8 Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners, and purify your hearts, ye doubleminded.

9 Be afflicted and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up.

11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law and judgeth the law. But if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

12 There is one Lawgiver who is able to save and to destroy. Who art thou that judgest another?

13 Come now, ye that say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a city and continue there a year, and buy and sell and get gain”;

14 whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

we get close to God by getting next to him.. just like on a cold winter day.. we come in from the outside froze.. we find a wood stove. we stoke it up stand as close as we can and rotate till our body is good and warm... acquire the fire ..i realize this will draw very little comments .. its not a post on eternal security or is gay sex a sin... we got to grow

A letter to the editor of a small town..

There is a great shepard in our small town
He watches over his flock day and night with great love and devotion. He will take in any stray lambs he finds or who come to him without any questions or a second thought.
He condems no one, he just loves and cares for his own little lambs and strays.
No, its not our Blessed Savior Christ who is here, but a very Christ like man. He may be smalll in size, but he has a heart that outweighs his body. We who know him are very blessed.
We all thank you Shepherd Jack, for your love and devotion through out this year.

Signed A. Believer...

This guy took kids home when they missed the school bus a 40 mile trip.. he split wood for the older folks .. cleaned the fish he caught and gave them to those who did not have. We dont hear about these kind of guys .. . There really are others like my dad out there...

praise God

for me humble means boasting in the Lord rather than self

every good thing i have ever done was AFTER i failed on my own and asked God to work through me to get something accomplished

every bad thing i have ever done was me leaning on my own ability

so my failures remind me to lean on God - thank God for His GRACE - mercy - favor - blessing - divine indwelling ability and strength - love

Humility: To be made humble, marked by meekness or modesty

The cross is just one example of humility where Jesus humbled himself through all the persecutions he faced even unto death that he presented himself no greater than those he died for. God said there is no greater love than a man lay his life down for another. This is what Jesus did was lay his life down so we could have life eternal with him. Followers of Christ should also have this meekness that we would be willing to do such a thing as this if it would bring a lost one to Christ.

John 10:15 as the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father and I lay down my life for the sheep.
John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay his life down for his friends.

Matthew 10:24 the disciple is neither above his master nor the servant above his Lord.

Yielding ourselves to God allows us to put him first place above ourselves and family so we can be more obedient to his will. We know that Gods will is to love unconditionally and when we can love in such a way we become not only a blessing unto God, but a greater blessing to our families. We give up trying to do everything our own way and allow the righteousness of God work in us and through us to be a more effective member of his body and receive the greater blessings of his love and compassion.

Luke 14:26, 33 If any man come unto me and hate not (hate not means putting your family first before God) his father, mother, wife, children, brethren and sister yes and his own life also he cannot be my disciple.
Luke 14:33, so likewise whosoever he be of you that forsakes not all that he hath he cannot be my disciple.
