First answer this question: Would you help a stranger fix a flat or jumpstart their car? They seem harmless and "nice" enough??

Read this true story:

A woman was leaving the supermarket. When she got to her car she noticed a man having car trouble.
She offered to help the man. They tried for 30minutes to fix the car and get it started. At that time the man asked if she would drive him a couple of miles to a friends house. The man seems nice enough, or so she thought. As the man entered her car he punched her with one hand and was groping her thighs and breasts with the other. He began to choke her with one hand while continuing to grope her with the other still. She managed to get her door open and the two spilled out into a ditch. He began brutally beating her when headlights flashed on them. The man got into his "broken down car" and drove off. She found out later the "nice man" was a walking felony out on parol for similar attacks!!

Answer this question: Would you help a stranger now?

What are some steps the woman could have taken to avoid this?

Are you aware that a violent crime is committed in the U.S. every 24 seconds? A murder every 28minutes? A rape occurs every 2 minutes? Mostly against women I might add.

Don't look at this site unless you want a reality check.

Are you aware that just a few basic street effective martial arts moves and mindsets can dramatically decrease your chances of being a victim?

Anyone here carry pepper spray or a self defense tool? Think you should now?

Well, Brian, this is less tackling the subject and more wanting your advice.

My daughter (17) just started her first job at a major theme park. One of her duties will be to sit in the parking lot ticket booth to take money for parking. I worry about her sitting out in that booth alone. I know there is security patrolling the parking lot, but I don't know how quickly they could respond to an emergency. I don't know what our laws are about carrying pepper spray, particularly for minors. Do you have any advice for us to help keep her safe?

How close is the nearest person? What hours will she be working? Her safety is the responsibility of her employer, but more importantly, yours. I don't know what state you live in, but surely it has laws regarding reasonable defense? Just my opinion, but the safety of my kids is more important than laws preventing that safety.

I just wanted to bring up awareness of the evil in this world. It's hard to think of ourselves as a victim, until it happens to us or someone close. Women are especially vulnerable.

She'll be working in the daylight hours and will only be working the parking ticket booth every now and then. Otherwise, she'll be working in the main park. They rotate the positions.

Yes, I agree her safety is my responsibility. Do you suggest I get her some pepper spray? Would it be effective? Are there any alternatives?

Here's some good reading. Illegal in Canada??? That's crazy....

Pepper spray is a good non-lethal alternative imo. I think all women should carry it. A personal alarm is a good idea too imo.

A good quality spray is very effective. They even have bear spray. I went through the gas chamber seceral times while in the army. That's CS gas, pepper spray has cs gas and atleast one other irritant usually. :)

I think this piece of advice offered by Brian in the OP is priceless. There is nothing more satisfying than the thought of a girl (or boy) kicking a would-be attackers backside. :halo
