Google Chrome question

I am of the mindset that if there is a better product, then go for it.

But if Kathi's virus protection has an issue with Chrome, perhaps staying away from Chrome would be best. Perhaps a move to FireFox?

I have heard bad things about Firefox that it can run havoc with a computer.

Well if you install masses of plugins and toolbars, I wouldn't be surprised. The same could be said for Internet Explorer.

Indeed, some have said that the fact that Internet Explorer is so entwined with the Operating System is a security concern.

I have heard that and that is why I was concerned.But I am thinking I could create more problems by changing.

I was referring to the principle of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Sometimes at work, it seems that they "upgrade" just because the version went up by 0.0.0.1, and it often causes more problems than it solves. Changing products because a different one is better is whole different concept.

I use chrome for business and FF for personal use, both are brilliant. To me IE is like a ford Edsel compared to a Phase 3 XY GTHO or a donkey to a thoroughbred. It gets down to personalpreferences though

Google Chrome is the browser I use regularly. I recommend it as it is fast and easy to use; you'll notice the difference over Internet Explorer.

I don't think you will encounter any security issues, however AVG Free Antivirus is decent security software.

Hello all you tech people who actually know what you are doing on a computer I have a question.I have an older computer and I am using internet explorer as my browser.I often get a message on my computer telling me that I am using an old browser and that I should install Google Chrome.I have Avast for my virus protection which I like alot.Avast told me once that Google Chrome can be a problem.What do you think?

I would stick with IE and upgrade to the newest version your OS can handle/support. Chrome is not as good as they make it out to be, especially on Forums sites like CF.

I have had some issues with IE over the years. I to got those messages, they were very tiring too. I decided on "Firefox". I have been extremely satisfied with Firefox with no problems. Plus my "spell check works on Firefox and did not work on IE. I have Norton Security Suit for my security....I also tried Chrome and didn't like it.

I have had some issues with IE over the years. I to got those messages, they were very tiring too. I decided on "Firefox". I have been extremely satisfied with Firefox with no problems. Plus my "spell check works on Firefox and did not work on IE. I have Norton Security Suit for my security....I also tried Chrome and didn't like it.

I also tried FF and there were lots of things it didn't do, like the Favorites Bar not showing the icons. My ISP includes a Security Suite that is great so security is a non issue. In any event I re-installed IE 11 and use it in compatibility mode for most sites like CF and because the 32/64 bit is seamless now, it automatically adjusts to what version works best on what site.
IMO Norton hogs a lot of resources, and I haven't used it in over 15 years. It was one od the first on the market along with McAfee, but in Canada, most ISP's provide a security suite along with your subscription to their services.

Most forums like CF use the older PhP and for some reason Chrome doesn't interact very well with it doing things like posting in wsywyg and copying and pasting test with underlying link. I'm not saying CF is bad, it just works better with IE IMO.

I have been using Chrome for a few years now and have yet to run into any issues with it both here on this site as well as others I frequent. I actually like Chrome.

I started out with IE but at one point decided to give FF a try and instantly found it to be much better than IE particularly with speed and customization. However, after a couple years of use I began to notice a dramatic slow-down with FF shortly after one of the updates were installed. I gave it time and waited for the next update to see if it would be repaired but it never improved. It got so bad, the snail, IE, was actually faster! That was when I gave chrome a shot. Just recently I gave FF another try but I found that I still prefer Chrome.

That's my experience for what it's worth.

and this points out a very good example of problems that WILL manifest themselves with all browsers...they inevitably get bloated.
So far so good with IE 11, but if it does slow down I will try the new version of Chrome. I did like Chrome while I was using it.

I think you always have to be careful to update from Adobe directly. There is a site called Flashplayer something, and it is NOT Adobe. Be careful. I mistakenly started downloading from there a little while back and my A/V went off like crazy. Only update from the actual sites and NOT through links or ads. You do have to turn spell checker on in IE 11.

I use Firefox 20.0 on SuSE Linux, and I haven't had any problems with the forums.

I got a new computer recently and have tried a few different distros on it. I don't really like SuSE and I'm going to try something else, probably Zorin next. The most popular Linux now is Mint. Ubuntu was the most popular, but they seem to have lost popularity after they changed their interface. Mint is an Ubuntu derivative and uses the same software installation system, which is very simple. You should give Mint or some other Ubuntu derivative a try. It's a really good OS, and you can try it without installing anything by using a live CD.

I tried Redhat and Mandrake...back then you had to do everything including mounting your own drives and it was tough finding drivers. It just wasn't ready for prime time.
