How many people own these?.....and what are your opinions of them?
Can anyone here contrast the two from person experience?
Strengths vs weakness?

These look great if you don't have a house full of kids. A quiet home where you're in control of what is and isn't commanded is the perfect place. My son, especially, says "Okay Google" all the time to set my phone off. I can't imagine what he'd do with one of these in the house.

I have an app on my phone that turns it off silent mode when you text me "unmute phone". It's intended to help you find your phone if you can't find it. He knows it and will crank my volume up when I'm at work. Jack-wagon...

Hey. What's the name of that app? My wife loses her phone regularly in the house.

Yeah, kids are not a problem. I like the idea of portability of echo but I understand Home has better sound because it is corded (more power). My neighbor as echo and likes it but I don't know anyone with Home which is why I am asking around.

JohnDB I'll tell you about it in a PM rather than go there here.

civilwarbuff I'm a tech junkie. Forums, podcasts, articles, gadgets at home & in the Jeep. I don't have first hand experience with these, but I've seen and read a lot about them. Both are responsive and accurate, from what they say. Both have almost unlimited potential, since they're so new to the market.

If I did choose one, I'd choose Google Home mostly because I own an android and a Chromebook, and I like the idea that they'll cooperate better. Amazon plays nicely but has its own ecosystem. If and as Amazon grows in this arena, I fear they may try to go to a closed ecosystem like Apple. I've never bought an iPhone because of Apple's vault.

If you own an Android device and use Google voice commands on it, you'd be logged in with the same Google account, and your phone and home would learn your tendencies together. They'd learn to anticipate your commands together, and you wouldn't have to change up anything in either environment.
