Hello all my wonderful Forum Friends. Soul man and I have teamed up to bring to your spiritual understanding some new and refreshing revelation from the Spirit of Almighty God concerning the original purpose of the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.

How did this happen? I'm glad you asked....Recently, Soul man made this statement...."I don't think we will see how deep the cross runs until eternity sets in." He said, "How deep the cross runs." Almost immediately. I believe that the Spirit of our living Lord impressed my heart/mind that He had revelation to share with Soul man and me, to set about an in depth fellowship of study into the depths of the cross of Jesus.

Purpose? To increase our knowledge of death to our old nature that rules our lives instead of the death of the cross which should rule over our new nature in Christ Jesus.

Hoped Results? That each one of us, by Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, will guide us thru revelation truths, this will happen if....Galatians 2:20 "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."

Dr. Kenneth Wuest said "The new life is a Person within a person, living out His life in that person." Which means, Jesus within us, living out His life in us. How can this happen? Only if the death of the cross destroys our our old man, or our old pattern of living.

To start off our (Soul man & my) thread, I'll post a beginning statement from my very good friend Soul man.

Gal 2:20, is keystone to our understanding, Death to The oldman.
John 12:24, 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
Jesus is talking about bringing forth more fruit (the birthing) by the cross.

We know from Old Testament that there needed to be an Atonement for sin and a reconciliation, 2 Cor 5:19,
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

John 6:6,11, Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We have been crucified with Christ, the old man is dead as Jesus was on the cross. The believer now needs to have a 'reckoning take place in their walk with God.
The cross is a completely finished work of God for mankind, a knowing needs to happen, a soul-mind principle.
Many Folks can not see what Jesus did to the old man on the cross, and know little about their salvation. Hence the arguments we see, about losing or keeping their salvation.

This is just the start of this thread by Soul Man and me. The next segment will be statements from me (Chopper) on some of what the Holy Spirit has revealed to me....Soul man and I have a lot to teach in this thread, therefore it will be a long and involved thread with many segments.

May our Lord Jesus Christ bless your mind and understanding, may our Holy Spirit give you ears to hear what He teaches us all.

Why a new revelation if it was in the scripture all ready?

Thank you my fine sir for your introduction. We both have pastoral experience, with Chopper the greater.
I'm an evangelist, that has stepped in at times to help pastor.
Regardless of your call, we are called to Him, and the study of Gods word is the same.
Delving into your word search, eschatology or doctrine, which we hold so dear, is the responsibility of every believer.
Years ago it came to me that "what-I-believed" held very little influence over our Father.
"In whom" I believed was salvation. That free's up the Christian to always be open to the HolySpirit.
Yielding our members to the HolySpirit is going to be a lifetime event.
Number one member is your soul-mind, your body will follow if you can get your mind fixed.
When I read with my doctrinal glasses on, I can only see what I believe.
We always feel the safeguard of; if I stray from truth the HolySpirit will in time get me on track.
Remember Sunday school when you were taught the HolySpirit is a gentleman, He still is.
My experience has been; in not being able to yield to the HolySpirit, He will not make you do anything. He understands the schoolhouse, He uses the schoolhouse (world) to get our attention.
We have enough trouble without the schoolhouse being our teacher, so allow the HolySpirit to teach you.
I call it a nudge of the Spirit, ever drawing us to Himself. He holds the truth of Gods word, without Him we are dead in the water. He is the revealer of the Christ-life, He is God in action.
"In Christ" we are (be-ers,) that means we just are.
With the HolySpirit He is the active one, always doing, working.
By the way this will help you divide truth, when you read a verse, look and see if it is action or not.
You will be able too see if it's Christ or the HolySpirit. We can not mix the two up, it causes confusion in your growth.
So these are a few of the things that help a growing believer.
In my study of the cross as well as other things, the more I see the less I know.
In study as well as writing you have to come to conclusions, its ok to be wrong.
Nothing worse than reading someone that can never make up their mind, what's the point.
Remember you are open, yielding to the HolySpirit, correction will come if that is the case, fear can not be part of the process.
The hardest part for me has always been; what I know, is all there is to know, what a stumbling block, that is a trick.
If you are able to get over doctrine, you are ready to move on. Keep in mind, your mind is your hard drive, it is very programmable. So you will need to weed through alot of stuff, some good and some not so good. It all needs to go on a shelf and let the HolySpirit only start teaching you.
If it's that important, its on the shelf for you to take back off and apply it to life.

I'm not a"pastor", never have been, never will be. I do understand however, the only nudging from the Holy Spirit is what is in the inspired scripture, otherwise what one thinks is a revelation from the Spirit may (and usually) contradicts another's so called revelation from the Spirit. Lets stay with scripture.
God bless.

Chopper and Soul man, thank you for your efforts in bring a topic that really needs to be understood.

For many years I allowed man to teach me until I got to a place that I really wanted to know Jesus on a more personal scale. I prayed and ask Jesus to really reveal Himself to me and this happened when I was taking communion a long time ago. I have a habit of breaking the bread in half and then taking the wine (grape juice) as this is what Jesus did as the bread represents His body broken for us and the wine representing His blood that was shed for all of us. I guess you could say I was in the Spirit at this time as when I broke the bread in two I could actually see and hear the flesh of Christ literally being torn from His body. Then when I took the wine and drank it I could actually see the blood of Christ flow from the top of the cross He hung on to the bottom and it started covering my feet. All I could do was cry as I never knew such a greater love than Jesus laying His life down for me who and never will be worthy of His great love. The cross is the beginning of the end of the old man and a new Spiritual beginning of the new Spiritual man in Christ.

Hi there billybalke. Welcome to a joint venture of Soul man & myself. This thread, the first of many that the two of us will present. We might even ask the members of CF.net if they would like us to research a subject, and then present a thread on that subject. Maybe you would like to be the first to suggest a topic. I'm sure others will suggest as well. Through prayer, Soul man and I will pick a subject that the Holy Spirit wants us to address.

Ok our friend, here's your question....
Why a new revelation if it was in the scripture all ready?

That's a very good question. There is so much biblical information in the Scriptures, problem is, most Christians are ignorant of what actually they teach. Why? They mainly stick with the New Testament, and when they read God's Word, that's what they do, just read. Some Christians follow a "Read the Bible in one year" and they miss important teachings because they're in a hurry just to read the allotted section.

The Bible should be studied slow, and then meditate on the Scriptures that are just read. My Son Skip, writes down important Scriptures on a 3x5 card. He has a little box that he puts them in, and he puts them in his truck. As he goes down the road, he takes out the first card and meditates on the Scripture that's on the card, then he puts it in the back of the other cards.

Skip knows a lot of Scripture and what it means. That's an excellent method.

Now, "revelation". Three people can read the same Scripture and come up with three different interpretations. Which is the right one? Only the Holy Spirit knows. He inspired the writers to document God's Words in the Bible. Soul man and I pray to the Holy Spirit to reveal the Truth of the Scriptures and many times it's new thoughts that no one has heard, that's revelation.

Soul man and I thank you for your participation in this thread. May Jesus bless you with His Peace....John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

Yes the Holy Spirit knows the correct interpretation of scripture for He gave it, II Pet.1:20,21. However, we can understand and know, Eph.3:4.
God bless

In Romans 12:1-2 NIV, Paul gives what I call the anatomy of commitment:

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Since everything we do is expressed through our bodies, Paul calls us to present our bodies as living sacrifices to God. The concept of a living sacrifice is interesting because it sounds like a contradiction.

In the mosaic system, a sacrifice was killed. Yet Paul wants us to remain alive We are literally to be walking dead people. How is this possible? Paul's understanding of his own life helps us here when he says, "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me." (Galatians 2:20 NIV)

If you were to ask Paul what his goals in life were, he would probably have said, 'I don't have any . Dead people don't set goals." If you were to ask him what his dreams were, he would have responded, "Dead people don't dream." But if you were to ask him what God's goals and dreams for him were, no doubt he could have talked all day long, because even though Paul was dead to himself, he was alive to God.

God's goals had become Paul's goals. God's desires had become Paul's desires. The only life he had was the life of Christ. This is why no one could intimidate this Brother.

You must be dead to yourself and alive to Christ. This is called a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. Which can only be done by faith in Christ and his Finished Work, i.e., The Cross, i.e., The Blood of Jesus. This allows the Holy Spirit a legal means to help you in every capacity...including dying to self (2 Corinthians 4:11), and keeping all commandments of our Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:21).

If his enemies threated to kill him, he could say, "To die is gain." (Philippians 1:21) If they said, "No, we're going to let you live," he could answer, "That's fine. "to live is Christ."' (Philippians 1:21b) If they said, "We're going to whip you," he could say, "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." (Romans 8:18)

If Paul died, he would go to be with Christ. If he lived, he would serve Christ. And if he suffered, he would get more reward from Christ. Therefore, since his whole life belonged to Christ, Paul's attitude was that it really did not matter what happened to him.

This kind of commitment is so important that Paul calls it our "spiritual act of worship." (Romans 12:1 NLT)

Two kinds of peace
1. Justifying Peace - This is Peace with God, a legal standing. Rom. 8:7; Eph. 2:14-15
2. Sanctifying Peace - This is the Peace of God in the heart. Rom. 8:6; 14:19; 15:13; Gal. 1:3

The first is the result of a legal standing. The second is the result of the Work of the Holy Spirit. The first is static, never fluctuates, the second changes almost from hour to hour. The first, every Christian has, the second, every Christian may have.

Sanctifying peace allows the Holy Spirit to deliver the Believer into the death of Christ so Christ life is manifested through the Believer (2 Cor. 4:11, Gal. 2:20-21, Romans 8:2,13, John 14:21). I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me (Who Jesus Is), and gave himself for me (What Jesus Has Done). Gal. 2:20

Purpose? To increase our knowledge of death to our old nature that rules our lives instead of the death of the cross which should rule over our new nature in Christ Jesus.

If your goal is to increase knowledge, then let it be the knowledge of Christ.

You listed two things here: death to our old nature that rules our lives, or the death of the cross which you said should rule over our lives. But in either case, you are still looking for death to rule over you.

Now it is written that Jesus rules over both the living and the dead (Rom 14:9), but if you wish to be ruled as one of the living, then you'll have to look beyond the cross. Life comes by the Resurrection, not the death of cross.

Thank you iLOVE for the writings of Pastor Tony Evans. That was wonderful, so true, and a welcome addition to our thread.

The glorious cross of Christ is Gods gift to a world lost and separated by the Adamic sin-nature, Eph. 2:3,
"Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others."
The commandment came to Adam, do not eat from a specific tree, Romans 7:8-12,
"But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.
9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.
11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.
12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good."
Paul was never alive without the law, he is speaking retrospectively of Adam and paints the sin-nature.

Adam failed, just as Lucifer had failed to obey God.
Adam being created a living soul, in the image and likeness of God, could not give God what He wanted.
Lucifer, son (placed as a son) of the morning, could not give God what he wanted. Angels could not give him what he wanted.
So a created being could not give him what he wanted, which was; to be loved like He loved.
Reciprocating love, the type of love He and His Son shared, the kind of love that would cause a Son to say "send me I'll go."
I had the question today asked "why was God so mean in the Old Testament." You have probably been asked the same question, and it's a tough one to answer.
I know God dealt with humanity based on their nature, he could not deal with them as a new creation because there were none.
He has always been a Father with Fatherly attributes, he could not express them in the Old Testament because there were none to express them to.
In all of man's success's and failure He knew He had a plan, a plan to birth His Own children with his nature in them.
Take a part of Himself (Christ) and place it in a believing sinner, Eph. 1:4. That is Grace, and the cross at its finest work. The thing that was hidden in God was, He was a Father, the cross will show how deep that relationship runs.

Chopper and Soul man, thank you for your efforts in bring a topic that really needs to be understood.

The cross is the beginning of the end of the old man and a new Spiritual beginning of the new Spiritual man in Christ.

I believe there comes a time in every believers walk when they decide to get serious ard search the scriptures.
You may even go through a period of time where you feel you were deceived, or maybe even lied to.
That is all part of the process of God, getting us where He wants us.
All things are necessary in God, all things are of God. Keeping in mind, He is our Father and He will take care of us.
The world can be a harsh environment to exist in, a schoolhouse, with many classrooms. We are being brought along, growing, maturing, sometimes not understanding, being under the Fathers element of time, Gal. 4:1-2,
Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;
2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.

Luke 9:23 - And He said to them all, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

Denial of self is recognizing my moral and spiritual poverty that I am unable to serve God in my own strength and power. We see this in the first three "Beatitudes." Romans 8:13, Zechariah 4:6

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5

Take up his cross is seen in Matthew 5:6; Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

I am filled by God's provisions found in Christ by placing my Faith exclusively in Christ and Him Crucified (Believing who Jesus is, and what Jesus has done). Therefore I receive all the benefits of this "Resurrection Life" by understanding that we have been planted together [Christ and ourselves] in the likeness of His Death [Romans 6:5, Psalm 103:2].

Without the knowledge of the Cross for sanctification, you will die (spiritually).

The Way Of The Spirit
Focus: The Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:6)
Object Of Faith: The Cross of Christ (Romans 6:1-14)
Power Source: The Holy Spirit (Romans 8:1-2, 11)
Results: Victory (Romans 6:14)

Man's Way
Focus: Works.
Object Of Faith: Performance.
Power Source: Self.
Results: Defeat!

Chopper and Soulman,
Your are traveling down a path, almost never explored. The first time I raveled this path, I was and I still am brought to tears. Those two, roughly hewn two pieces of timber held the one thing every person that and that has lived should humble themselves before, the Living God that freely gave Himself for us. And both of you are doing an excellant exegesis on the subject.

Thank you so very much for those kind words. I believe that Soul man and I are beginning a pattern that God loves. Two men who reason together under the obedience of the Spirit of God to present Truth, I said TRUTH to others in the hope that others will follow our lead and live a life of death to the old man, and life to the new.

Soul man and I believe that this Scripture....Luke 9:23 "And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." Our theology of the cross of the Christ of God, Jesus, always means DEATH. Sure there is resurrection life which is post cross, but the initial emphasis of the cross is death to what we used to be.
