Hi all,

I'm a mature aged husband, father and grandfather. I have been a Christian for many years.

I live and work in a small remote farming community. We have a small local Church with just a handful of regular attenders, and apart from that I don't know many active/committed Christians.

I came here hoping to find a few new friends.... that we might encourage each other in the faith and/or chat about life in general.

Kind Regards,
Pete.

hello Pete, dirtfarmer here

When you state that you "live and work in a small remote farming community", does that mean that your are a farmer? Or do you have some other means of living?

I was raise on a farm and know a little about farming. It can be a very rewarding life, but hard at times. I believe that farmers have to trust God and pray more that He would supply rain and sun for crops to grow, than say an industrial worker. You are a little more in tune with God's natural world. You have to be able to understand when it is time to plant, cultivate your crops, and then when it is time to harvest. I would say that most people of today's generation would starve if they had to grow their own food rather than buy it at the supermarket. There are not many that know how to slaughter and preserve any type of livestock for their meat supply.

In todays society we have become "instant". We have instant potatoes, "t v dinners, microwavable meals, and of course "sandwiches."

Welcome Pete!

Greetings from Sydney! :)

Thanks for the welcome everyone. :thumbsup

dirtfarmer I am not a farmer. I work for the local council (we call it a Shire in WA) and am currently a grader operator doing maintenance grading in our region. I do occasionally work with local farmers (we call 'em a "Cocky", as in Cockatoo), doing farm tracks, fence lines, water catchments, etc. See http://graderlife.com (under construction) for more info if you are interested.

I've done lots of other stuff.... but won't get into that now (where's the fun in that?) ...you'll figure that out a you get to know me. :)

calvin here,
Yes, welcome to here Pete from another Sydney sider..
In your Church, do you have a pastor or do you all (some) pitch in and share God's word?

Welcome Pete.

Where are you now in your spiritual experience?

I repented at 12
Accepted Jesus at 24
Baptized in Holy Spirit at 26

I must operate in slow motion. What took me years could have just been days, or less.

I am into human body symbolism (kidneys, liver, heart, etc.).

Looking forward to discussing the eternal with you.

Hi calvin thanks for the welcome. :)

We had, until recently, a visiting speaker about once a month. Some of the members will share a message from time to time, but most of the time we watch recorded sermons from various conferences and/or ministries known by members of the church. I haven't been attending frequently this year for various reasons. I have only lived in this town for a couple of years and tend to struggle with 'motivation' to attend the local church, even though they really appreciate the extra bodies (If I attend with my wife and son ).

My previous experience with church is a little complicated and to some extent 'painful'. I have past ministry experience and I am sure the locl church would love to 'use me' more but, as I said.... its complicated.

Hi eddif

OK, I see how this is going to be... straight into the deep end... :)

I grew up in a Christian 'ministry' home.
Moved around a lot.
Baptised in the Holy Spirit @ 26
Bible College @ 27/28
Ministry (Full time) 29 - 31
Ministry (part time) on and off for 10 years... (while working full time and raising a family).
Ministry "burnout" @ 40

.... BIG BLACK HOLE .... for about 8 or 9 years (no church at all)

Gradually finding my way 'back'... started attending our small local 'community church' last year.
Still 'healing'.

Interested in a wide variety of Christian subjects but get a little annoyed (from previous forum experience) when people get too caught up in intellectual minefields.... and just go round in circles... :wall

Other than that.... all good. :yes

One of my favorite verses is
Romans 7:25
Flesh vs mind.

Oh I do good in the mind of Christ
But
My mind is housed in a bony structure encased in flesh., and that part still awaits the resurrection to be totally changed.

I do not want public gory details of your life. Those are best done privately (confess sins one to another). I have things best left off the web myself.

I am interested in getting to know your spirit man. We usually talk about our blown up flesh though. I wound up in an area of symbolism. When you read some of my posts, just tell me when you decide I have gotten into an (intellectual minefield).

Maybe you can discern some of the spirits that drive people. There is one Holy Spirit, but all sorts of other spirits.

Welcome aboard again.

Thanks for your reply eddif

Don't worry, I don't intend to share any public "gory details". I'll attempt to answer questions honestly (within reason) but, like you said, some things are best left private.

Interesting that you mention Romans 7:25. It leads directly into Romans 8. Probably my favourite chapter in the New Testament.

Yes, I can discern some of the spirits that drive people. My goal here is to keep growing and learning (iron sharpens iron, etc). I'm not here to stir the pot or to pick fights with anyone, but know how to stand my ground when required, depending on who I'm dealing with and if I believe its worth the effort.

The way I see it, as a believer, eternity (however you understand it) is rather a long time, so we may as well learn to get along with each other. So lets talk. :)

We have taken the welcome wagon thread a bit off track, but we sure know where to head.

I suggest we let you go to the lounge area (you start a thread). and lightly go through Romans 8

The way I look at Romans 8 has gotten me being shown two things:
The church book of doctrine
The door to leave by

I try and not argue, but a discussion leading to truth is ok.

If I can't get rapidly to the issues, then the gifts are not functioning and i am in the flesh area.

Private message me when you feel comfortable and have started the thread.

Three crazy aussies.lol

Punch any kangaroos lately?
No but my brother recently just narrowly avoided hitting a kangaroo with his car. Would be the end of the car if he had.

I did make some kangaroo burgers a few weeks back. Pretty good stuff.
