I think that's somewhere in Scripture...that The Holy Spirit will serve as a guide for God's people, guiding us into All Truth.

My own 4 1/2 years as a genuinely Born Again Christian have involved a lot of facing Truth. I got to thinking about this just now because cnn online had a little piece about some former tennis champ in Australia who's ruffled feathers for calling sodomy a sin and talking honestly about homosexuality in sports. Thing is...the quotes I read weren't really "homophobic" or anything. She was just telling The Truth, as revealed by Scripture and real life experience. Thing is...

...the world's not big on truth. I don't know that the world has ever been big on the truth (we killed Jesus, afterall...), but the lies the world is selling us now are probably worse, more dangerous, more destructive than the lies the masses were sold for a long time there. Actually, come to think of it...even though there aren't all that many people on the narrow road, Christians changed society for a season, kind of...took the edge off things, I guess. Made things more humane, more live-able, more decent. No longer. :-(

This isn't really a post about sodomy or even a rant against the evils of (post)modern culture (what Pope John Paul II called "the culture of death," and for good reason...). I'm just thinking...I need more Truth in my heart and in my life. 4 1/2 years of saving faith in Christ isn't a whole lot, especially when I think upon who I was, what I did, etc. before Jesus saved me, but...

...its been enough, at this point, to make me want The Truth. "heart of flesh, not of stone," I believe is how Scripture puts it. I'm also beginning to see that being genuinely saved, born again, transformed, etc. is a bit...radical, in this day and age. And I say this as someone living in what remains of The Bible Belt ("1,000 miles wide, 1 inch deep") where going to church and church culture are still very much a part of day-to-day life for many of us here.

OK. I guess I'm saying...let's pray to be guided into All Truth, both as individuals and as a group, as Christians. No matter our political outlooks, etc., we share a bond in Christ, and that's something I think we often forget. I also ask that you pray that we--individuals, as well as Christians as a whole--can find constructive ways to be "in the world, but not of it." For me, that's been one of the biggest blessings, ever. A lot of people, however, find that very challenging (I'm going to guess they were more "well-adjusted" to the world before Jesus saved them than I was...).

So...yeah. Please pray with me that The Lord will guide us into All Truth, and that we'll be receptive enough, teach-able enough, humble enough to be guided and to be further transformed by what He shows us.

Thanks. :)
